    Default dodgy cowboys!

I took my peugot 206 in as there was a grinding noise coming from the rear everytime i put my foot on the brakes. I took it to a local garage and they told me that the bearings had gone in the rear drum. I had aready been warned this was an issue with pugs so that was fine.

The 'fixed' the car and i picked it up i took it home and then i didn't need to drive it until friday ---bank holidayicon--- i then heard a grinding coming from the rear but only on one side. on inspection it appears to my dad they have used copper grease on the bearings.......

i have been informed this is the incorrect grease and the bearings will now have to be replaced. I now cannot pick up my step daughter of attend the interview in lincoln i have on tuesday...

please help...any advise on the best way to approach this and how to get my money back and the repairs sorted properly would be greatly appreciated....

    sorry this is so long!

Grinding only when you put your foot on the brakes would suggest brake shoes not bearings.

Agree with that, ask your dad to remove the drum and have a look.

the brake shoes and pads were replaced at the same time. there is what appears to be metal shavings on one side of the alloys on the side of the car the grinding is coming from.

So all in all the pads and brake shoes where replaced as were the drums and bearings.

can someone confirm for me that copper grease is the incorrect grease to use for bearings?

    thanks

Yes it is the wrong grease - the grease used to be marked HMP (ie Castrol HMP) which is High Melting Point, but is now marked Wheel bearing grease, although it could still be marked ie; LMX.
Wheel bearing grease has a high melting temperature and high load properties, nothing else should be used.

Copper is not really grease. The copper particles are held in suspension and it is the copper that is used as an equivilent lubricant.

Real grease is based on soap so that shows that it is completely different to copper ease.
