Thread: Refused CB JSA

My husband has been made redundant end of march and has claimed contribution based jsa - as he has worked for 40 years we saw no issues - they have refused his claim saying he has not paid enough NI he was in his last job for 4 years ( well within the 2 year requirement ) and he has pay slips with NI taken out if his wages - now they are telling him his contributions have 'run out' what the f'@@@@ does that mean
He is going down the JC to get yet another form and they say they will sort it out

We cant claim income based as I am working and we wont get it
Apart from going to the papers which I will do if he doesnt get it what else can I do

Do you have the P60s for 2005/2006 and 2006/2007. That would give the correct contributions information. If the claim has just been made then the information stating that they have "run out" is wrong.

What may have happened is the information for those two tax years has not been updated by the employer. The P60s (if you have them) can be copied at the jobcentre and sent to the processing office for them to manually input.

I can't think what the form is they are asking him to go down to get. Let us know.

That happened to us a few years ago. OH was told CB JSA would stop after 6 months and because I was working OH was not entitled to income based JSA luckily he gained some new employment but for a few months we were living on my paltry wages. We were not entitled to council tax benefit as I was £10 over the threshold. How are people supposed to live in these times.

i lost my job in nov. my wages paid for our food. as i was part time i didnt pay any ni and was entitled to nothing. needless to say our diet has changed and not for the better!!!

From the sounds of things, unless it is a new claim, your husbands contribution based Jobseekers Allowance may have run out. After 182 days, JSA contribution based runs out and generally, the customer is asked to fill out a JSA3 which is a review form to assess entitlement for Income Based JSA.

He went to collect an appeal form and another form to reapply for JSA but as the form was for income based and we wont get it as I earn a very good salary it was a waste of time

We are looking for his P60s and also we have files somewhere all his wage slips for the last 4 years to attach to the appeal form as I quote 'the independent appeal tribunal cannot check or change your contribution record' - so they are going to be as much use as chocolate teapot

I was thinking of phoning the NI office which I believe is in Newcastle to get an updated record - I can well believe his last employers didnt do things correctly - he is still waiting for his p45

Yes, appealing NI contributions is pointless, as you say...and....

The Newcastle records office is where the JSAPs system (the computer system that pays JSA - and now ESA too) gets its information.

But fortunately....

The best way to do it is to get the P60s (or late-in-the-tax-year payslips) and get them to manually input them at the processing office.
