    Default Firstplus PPI £18500. Help needed to claim.

    I took a large loan with Firstplus about 7 years ago and regretted it since day 1. The PPIicon premium was something in the region of £18,500 and my monthly payments were in excess of a £1100 per month including the PPI.
    I did make a claim against them when suffering a back injury and my payments were made for about 3 months.
    Eventually the strain of the payment forced me into remortgaging my property and ditching Firstplus once and for all.
    After paying over £36000 in premiums to them i still owed substantially more than i borrowed and i was just glad to lose the debt.
    Does anyone think i should pursue a claim as i had no idea what i had signed up for at the time?
    I sent them a SARicon about 30 days ago, they have cashed the Postal order but nothing arrived yet.

    Having made a successful claim and received payments from the PPI, I don't think you will have any luck trying to claim this was mis-sold.

    Thanks. i did mention this to someone who said that the claim wasnt the issue. The fact is the policy would only pay for 12 months so therfore i paid £18500 for something that i could have just subsidised myself. Got to say i think you are probably right, but the issue is was the policy missold in the first place?

    IMO for a figure of £18,500 there should be nothing stopping you from at least trying for a reclaim. Nothing ventured nothing gained especially in the light of the mis-selling. A Subject access requesticon cost £10.00 has to be worth a shot even though you did make a claim especially when you get the results of your SARicon. Also remember they only have 40 days in law to respond to your SAR.

    more info later when I get my own pc back and a workable ISP

    You can take the following actions;

    Sent the letter and today received about 200 pages of correspondence. Unbelievably they have also included information relating to another customer. (should i contact the customer)?

    It transpires that a loan i had in my name included £7.5k of single premium PPIicon which i then refinanced and had a further premium of £18.300.
    I know most will tell me what action to take, but due to the large amount i have seen and instructed a solicitor who specialises in missold PPI and has a particular fondness for Firstplus.
    Wont be cheap if i win, but started with nothing and potential of a £20k plus claim will make me very happy.
    Will keep you all informed. Thanks

    Yes as a matter of his Data Protection Rights you should make him aware his data is not safe and also send the information on this breach to the Information Commissioners Office they will be very pleased to see it IMO

    Just had a response from the solicitor. Seems the first loan was sold by an independent company which has gone bust. there is a body called Financial Services Compensation Scheme for issues like this but my loan is before it was introduced. Still awaiting a response on the second loan which was definitely within the time limits.
