Speeding on US license and unable to attend court appearance
Hi all,
I'm just after some advise from a work collegue of mine.
She is from the US and got caught speeding at 40 mph in a 30 zone. Because she has a US license she must go to court as they cannot give her a fixed penalty.
She has sent back the forms to the police etc and explained that she is leaving the country on 15th May, but they cannot tell her when the court appearence will be.
What happens if she has already left when the court case happens? Will they just issue the fine and she could pay even is she doesn't attend? Who should she contact to explain the situation?
She doesn't want to avoid paying as she will be travelling back here in the future for work.
Re: Speeding on US license and unable to attend court appearance
If her company are dealing with it, it's a shame they didn't wait until she left the country and give the police her US address. Had they done that, its highly likely the police would just have cancelled the ticket.
In any case, the worst that can happen is that she will be found guilty in her absence and risk being pursued for the fine when she returns to the UK.
