Please help - Metropolitan Collection Services threat
I was an offshore worker on Scotland (day rate payment) annd suffered an accident and can not work more.
I have a Bank account on HSBC Bank on Aberdeen, Scotland, but I do not have money to cover my debt, over £1,000.
I am Brazilian and live in Brazil. I do not have money, I am having finantial difficulties here (Brazil) and can not take a flight to solve the problem with the Bank. E-mails, faxes and telephone calls that I did was unable to solve that.
Now I received in my house, in my Country (Brazil), a letter of Metropolitan Collection Services Servicees Limited saying that I will be prosecuted IN MY COUNTRY due my debt.
My doubt is: Is the Company really can do this? Or is only a bleff to scare me?
Sorry about my English.
Regards,
Carlos

It is a common occurrence - however they have a number of issues. For such a small amount, they will probably NOT have taken you to court, but sold the debt to a company that has contacts abroad. They will then use local agents to TRY and affect recovery of the debt - but this is usually as far as it gets.
