Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
On 14/03/09 at 10:15-11:15 pm i used my Barclays bank debit card in one of the barclays bank ATM . i Checked my balance and when i pressed no for any further transaction my card was not returned back as the message was displayed on the screen " due to some internal error within the machine , we are unable to return your card at the moment." Since i was not having any of my card detials so rather contacting them straightway i came at my ahome . i checked the barclays site to know what is done by the barclay cards if the card is swalloed by the barclays meachine itself . it was clearly mentioned their that the card will be returned to me via secure email .This made me feel relaxed and after two days i went to bank to know weather the money(£1000) is credited in my account which my dad transferred from INDIA . the guy over there said no , there also i put my request for new debit card . Now today when i went to withdraw money from bank the said the my account has been overdrwn by £ 44 when i checked my history of the account there were some transactions which were unusaul to me . There was money withdrawn from my account quite regularly from the past week. my statement shows that 600 pounds have been withdrawn from account on 17/03/09 from an atm even though i have a withdraw limit of £300 per day and also the statement clearly shows the amount of £ 985 has been credited to my account on 16/03/09 though the employee in the bank simply said no regarding this when i enquired abt it on 17/03/09. my case has been forwarded to the fraud department with the barclays and i have also registered a complaint with the police.
Can you please advice me something regarding this , what steps to be needed from my side and will barclays will return my money or not . Any advice from you will be helpfull.
a sort of fire-fighting role here. Hate HFC & their past compulsory PPI ethos

Re: barclay debit card fraud
yes, you should get everything back.
though it will not hurt to contact them at the end of the week and ask how things are progressing.
next time, check the card slot before you use it.
sounds like you fell for the maltesse loop trick [loop of plastic/thread inside slot, that is taped on outside, you put card in, machine jams, you walk away, theif walks back . pulls tape out - with your card.]
becareful!!

my views are my own...seek legal advice if ness
NEVER EVER - act on a private message asking you to visit another website, make contact 'off list' or by telephone
- alert the siteteam IMMEDIATELY by hitting the black warning triangle on any message - Particularly if this results in a request to pay a fee to help you.
rather than hittting to be my friend - hit the star
I would agree with dx100uk that there was a device on the ATM. I would say anytime an ATM card is swallowed in a machine, always cancel it immediately. The transactions showing on the 16th indicate that the card was used over that weekend, ie £300 on the 14th and £300 on the 15th, etc, etc, with the withdrawal date on the statement the following working day. You will get it back otherwise post further on here.
many thanks to everyone on showing concern over here.
Today i received a mail from bank abt some guranteed payment from my bank , and it says that they will charge me £8 for each transaction for these payments . As i cancelled my card on 17 there are still transactions whic h i can see on 18, 19 , 20, 23 . What's the next advice for me.
many thanks,

You should get everything back which has been fraudulently taken from your account.
The bank needs to be reasonable about this.
Get back in touch with the bank and tell them about the letter you have received. Tell them your account is with their internal fraud dept. At the same time ask how far the bank have got with your case
No charges should be incurred when there is a suspicion of fraud.
