I bought a landrover discovery, 42000 miles on the clock and paid for a landrover extended warranty. The Dealer Stratstone told me it had just been serviced and did not need servicing for 12 months. had the car for 11 months and the oil pump drive chain snapped. result - seized engine. landrover recovered the car to a dealer near me who advised that the engine was shot and the cost was between 5.5k and 6.5k. also told me i'd missed a service and the warranty was void.
have complained to landrover warranty who have refused to pay stating that the car has missed a service. its done 60k miles so i should have had a service half way through the year and not 12 months. the service interval states 12000 miles or 12 months. whichever is earlier.
The oil pump drive chain is a non serviceable part.
where do i stand now?
has anyone had a similar experience? any advice welcome.
You will find it difficult trying to get around the fact the book says when a service is due and you have gone over that mileage.
No matter if the chain is a serviceable item or not, the fact you did not have it serviced is like a big brick wall in front of you.
This is just the sort of excuse they look for so they don't have to pay out. Unfortunately it looks if they have all the cards on their side.
