Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I walked out of my girlfriends house this morning to find my car had been clamped. I called the mobile number that was stuck to my windscreen to be told that I'd been clamped for unpaid congestion charges and that I'd need to pay £1400 to get the clamp released otherwise they would tow my car and then charge me £20 per day from that point.
The car is currently clamped on a road that requires you to pay and display so if I was to go to work I'd almost certainly get a parking ticket.
Can anyone help? Do I have a case for unreasonable release fee?
I had receieved paperwork, yeah. I'd spoken to someone from the bailiffs several months ago to try and arrange a payment plan but they weren't prepared to offer me a plan that I could afford so the charges went unpaid.
They've towed the car now and have said they will auction it at the end of the week if I don't pay the £1400 + £175 removal fee and £20 per day holding.
They have dropped the paperwork through my girlfriends door which lists all the charges to date. Unfortunately I won't be able to get my hands on this info until I finish work this evening.
The name on the documentation was Mr Kirtley
I have been given a levy order but no they haven't been in my house and I haven't signed anything.
I was making payments to them last year but was struggling to keep up with these and they wouldn't restructure them so I fell behind. For this 'break in agreement' they have charged me an extra £207.
