Default Want to Join A Gym

    Hi

I want to join a Gym and loose some weight. I'm into swimming and doing some work on threadmills and there is a Vigin Active nearby. I was considering joining but to be honest I'm a little skeptical considering that there have been some bad reports recently?

Could someone recommend a Gym and the best way to go about it, or maybe a Gym who offer a monthly payment plan thats low cost and that won't take me to the cleaners.

    Thanks, Mothman

    Hi Mothman
Have you checked out your local council run leisure centre?
You can 'pay as you go' or buy 'monthly memberships. You are not tied into 6 or 12 month contracts.

I know gyms have to cater for a lot of different people but I for one am not too concerned with what it looks like or who is going there. I just need my weights and space to do my exercises. So I'm not in a position to comment about which gym is "nicest".

Let me be honest, to go to the gym 6 days a week takes a lot of dedication. You have to enjoy training and have very strict goals and a focus on what you want to achieve. For me the gym is a passion so I find it easy and paying my membership is no issue as I get my value for money. I think you should consider that before you pay out for any gym. Are you going to carry on with it? I see a lot of people getting their membership, coming for a few weeks and giving up.

My advice is simple. If you're serious about loosing weight and only that, you don't need a gym membership. You just need to get out there and run or cycle and watch your diet a little better. Stop drinking beer etc. Start with 30 mins of running a few times a week. When you start, run for 1 minute and walk for 2 and carry that on. As you get better, run 2 and walk 1 etc. Just go as your body feels but always do your best. If you continue with that for a few months and are still serious, then go look at a gym and start working some weights etc. If you have a friend who can join you and you share equal goals then that's even better.

Anyway, good luck. I hope you get the fitness you want

Hope that wasn't too long or boring
