Default Advice Needed Should I Try And Reclaim Charges ??

    Hello everyone,
i'm looking for a bit of advice as i'm not sure which way to go here.
I have a had a barclaycard credit card since 2003.
Back in October 2006 i wasn't able to make the minimum payments anymore and they agreed to accept £23 per month from me.
In doing this they stopped adding charges and interesticon.
At present i am still paying the £23 and there is currently £1400 owing on the card.
As you can see it's going to take me a long time to clear this
Anyway after looking through my statements i have charges on there that add up to £228 and if i add on compound contractual interest it goes up to £380.17!
Does anyone think i should try and claim these back? My concern is they've been one of my better creditors, as they don't hassle me and have stopped adding charges and interest. If i ask for charges back i'm worried they may resume normal collection activity!

    Thanks
    Livis xx

Was it part of the agreement that you wouldn't claim? If it wasn't, then g ahead and claim.
If it was then you should still consider claiming but be aware of possible consequences

    Good morning BankFodder
Thanks for looking in on this for me.
We never had any agreement set up, only that i would pay £23 per month.
Some of these charges are quite old, the £20 ones so i think i may try and see what they say.
With the compound interesticon included they soon add up.

    Hi Livis,

It may well be that, if you seek a refund of penalty charges, BC may well resume normal collection practices, demanding payment by constant phone callsicon, letters and using DCAicon's.

You are very lucky that they've accepted reduced payments - they normally ignore such requests. Even more lucky that they've suspended interesticon and charges.

I'd wait and see how long they continue to withhold normal collection. If they resume it, claim then anyway as you'll then have nothing to lose. If you see other BC threads, you'll see how often CAGgers are being hounded every day.

The only exception would be if there are any charges nearing 6 yearsicon old on the a/c which may be more difficult to reclaim if they go over the 6 years normal limit.

I had a read round the barclaycard forum and realised i am quite lucky that they are allowing me to pay like this.
Like i said, i don't relly want to rattle their cage.
Think i may leave them for now

That sounds sensible unless any charges are about to go over 6 yearsicon old.

Have you been paying PPIicon on the a/c.

Have you been Defaulted on the a/c.

They may well resume normal collection activity. When they do, you can pursue the issue of charges.
