Default ok thats it no sigal again will freesat solve this

my telly keeps losing it signal i bought a digital aerial about 18mths ago and had a booster fitted at the same time and it was OK for a while and if we did lose the signal we always had the BBC Chanel's and the freevew digital Chanel's the freevew is built into the telly so no separate box
now even the BBC Chanel's are getting as bad
yesterday we had no Chanel's at all it came back on about tea time
i don't want sky but hubby doing my head in about this
would this freesat thing with the satellite dish solve my problem or am i going to have to get sky to solve this problem i relay don't want sky as i don't watch that much telly and my hubby usually work's away from home Monday till Friday and even the basic £16.50 a month sky package is in a waste of money for something we will hardly
any help on this would be gratefully received(divorceicon freesat or £16.50 for sky pmsl) my hubby relay is doing my head in about this

i hate bailiffs would love to put a hex on them all

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination

have you asked a local aerial guy how much it would cost to repair?

i would say its nothing to do with freeview but your aerial or plugs.
have you not got another telly [even a portable] to stick on the down pipe and see if that is any better/worse just to confirm?

freesat is good and will only get better, however, it is not immune either to things like snow/rain atmospherics.

might be cheaper to get the aerial looked at.

if you were near essex i'd do it for free

buit im not moving to wick until the late summer.

its a new digital areal that was put up about 18mths ago by a proper aerial fitter he put new coax cable that is supposed to reduce interference
he also fitted a booster in my house and what i can only describe as white plastic boxes outside where the Ariel cable comes into the house
i have tried my other telly and no joy there
but i do believe its the area its not just me it happens to my daughter she lives in same street and hers is the same (she got new areal at same time as me )

two things here ring alarm bells

    1. a booster was needed
    2. it is not a masthead one, but further down the line,

pm me your postcode and i will investigate what if anything is going on in the transmitter news.

the fact that you are not even getting terrestrial tv, leads me believe there is a fault in the aerial feed somewhere.

terrestrial & freeview signals will not be coming from the same transmitter, they might be co-sited on the same tower, but sep transmitters.
    very rarely will both fail.

ok i've pm'ed you with the info on the transmitters
looks like you are in an 'iffy' area
however, as it has worked till now & going by the interference issue you mention, my thoughs def lie with something not being correct.

you should not be getting motorbikes etc causing you break up etc.

as i'm very much remote to you i can only go by what you are saying, [which is very good BTW] but my thoughts lie with the following:

    the 'booster box' -----

how is it powered? is it on a mains socket, or no mains socket feed so it is powered up the coax line? where is it positioned too? is this the box you mention on the outside of the house?

    connections ----

i am not saying your installer did a poor job, but typically 'sparking' interference, gets into a system because the braid [earthing] of the coax cable is broken or not clamped propely in the coax plugs or booster box harnesses.

    now.
the two could be linked... IF you have poor braid connection & your booster is powered via the coax, it won't be getting the power it need to work, so hence no signal or very poor one, being suseptable to 'sparking' interference.

the boaster box is in the dining-room and it has to be plugged into electric to work it has coax cable going in at one end and out the other
we have never had good telly reception in this house but when we had the old telly and areal if we did lose the signal it was only gone for a few minutes then came back and the bedrooms(which are connected to the roof areal) have never worked unless we use a freevew box the outside white things are flat with a u shape that sticks out the cable going into it then through the wall i have these white boxes outside every room the cable goes into 3 bedrooms sitting room dining room sorry wrong about booster it has bit where you screw the areal into it and next to it a bit to screw TV into it and a plug on other end

try removing the aerial feed where it goes into the booster box and plug that direct into a tv and tune the tv in.
that will bypass the booster. and give a direct connection from the aerial to the tv.

    what does that do?

Ive had a good picture today hubby gone to bed happy he got to watch the rugby with no interference and wales won lol

    hic...

all of which point to a dodgy connection somewhere , my thoughts lie with a coax plug not being put on correctly or something in the coax clamp up at the aerial being loose and moving in the wind?

the only thing i can suggest is to check the coax plug on the end of the aerial down lead , the centre 'pin' should be captive, i'e where the centre core of the coax [single stiff wire] goes into the coax plug at the end of the lead, there are sometimes issues with this not making contact with the actual pin itself because of a size difference. a getle squeeze with something to squash the pin tighter often helps, but what puzzles me it you loose everything even terrestrial [normal] tv, that smacks of an aerial fault.
