A&L switched my DD's without my consent & made me go into the red... What do I do?
In Oct I opened my new account with A&L. (Don't ask why). They sent me some forms to confirm I want to switch all of my Standing Orders and DDs to the account. I changed my mind and decided not to transfer the regular payments so I just left it. I decided I'd use them as my 2nd account just to deposit some money every month since my other account (Barclays) is overdrawn.
They switched the regular payments anyway... I didn't pay the money in time and here it started. Unauthorisd overdraft charges kicked in. I paid it off. But they kept charging me which made me go into the overdraft again so I just left it for a while cos I didn't have money or time for this. That was over a month ago and now I'm £210 in red... I don't want to pay this money cos it's not theirs to take.
Can you advise me as to what to do next? I'm quite new to all this stuff.

I'm in. I just sent a letter to A&L for SAR. I didn't even bother calling them, no way I'd wait, hanging on the phone for another 30mins to the Customer Services-->Credit Control office only cos they've suspended my account for no reason!!!
I found a link to step by step guide on Consumer Wiki to reclaim your bank charges, very helpful. All you novices, check it out.
Re: A&L switched my DD's without my consent & made me go into the red... What do I do?
I got a letter from A&L with all my statements showing that they have refunded the £210 that was overdrawn.
Next step - I am about to send a letter for the £50 they charged me (2x £25 back in Dec 08/Jan 09! I'm not going to let them steal my money like that. If they've done it for the £210, they will give me the £50 back!
Also now that my A&L account (my umbrella account) is zero'ed, I can start claiming my money back on my current Barclays account and the big fish - HSBC account which they closed due to unpaid overdraft! Wow... Get ready for some action...
