Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I am wondering if someone can give me some advice, i have previously banked with A&L but due to high charges & a paid off loan ( Global debt management ) i sought to put my money elsewhere, now with all that has been going on in respect to reclaiming bank charges / PPI i am interested to know whether a) Can i claim back these bank charges & PPI even tho i haven't used the account since 2000 & b) Due to the age of the account any documents that i have had are long gone so the account number that i held is now lost, how would i go about getting this?
Telephone there head office & they couldn't find my details on the computer, so he suggested writing a letter with previous addresses on & various other info.
Have emailed Experian but no response as of yet. Also no response to the letter that i sent to A & L. I have tried mylostaccount.org but they can't find any details. Would it be possible that A & L are that underhanded that they do know my details but don't want me to get my hands on them? If i did send a S.A.R could they still say that the account was too old so they no longer have the details?
lot of questions i know but, do i spend £10 on an S.A.R & not know whether they will be able to find the details.
Looked on Experian yesterday & found that A & L looked in during February 2003 ( Probably when my loan from them was paid off ) I then received a letter from A & L today saying that they cannot find anything going back for the past 7 years! I am now at a loss as what to do next
Well it seems that i have had my wires crossed in regards to an account with the A & L, have not previously had an account with them ( Mix up on my part! ) but, i have had a loan with them which was paid up in early 2003. I have since sent a letter to them apologising for my mistake but i now need the info concerning the loan. This letter was sent on 23rd March & i have not received any correspondance back so, a) Is it worth telephoning the young lady who i sent the letter to & ask her or b) Shall i send an SAR for a loan that was paid up a number of years ago to which i have no agreement number for? or c) Forget about it & chalk it up as a missed opportunity?

... if my experience is anything to go by, A&L will say they've destroyed any loan agreement which was settled back in 2003 though, legally, they ought still to have it.

Thanks for that Ronvin, i sent an email yesterday to the CEO of A&L, received a reply saying that since the takeover last October he was no longer employed but, my concerns have been passed onto Group Customer Relations for a quick & appropriate response. Previously i had sent a letter asking for details ( 23rd March ) but i had not received anything so that is what prompted my email.
Will give it till Monday to see if i receive a further email & then i will send an S.A.R to them. Will keep people updated.
Have received 2 letters from A&L ( From 2 different people! ) but both stating that they only keep the records for 6 years, they have passed my request to Global debt management to see whether they have any details ( Not holding my breath on that one! ) Am i right in believing that they only keep it for 6 years from the date that the loan started & not from when it finished?
i'm sure its from when the loan was taken out, however when i sent my sars request to the Halifax they sent me info on my savers my mum opened for me when i was just a kid, which was way more than 6yrs ago.
So they don't all abide by the 6yr rule, keep your fingers crossed.
You might not be able to win this one, but don't give up without trying every option.

Have just spoken to my bank with regards to the standing order that was set up for the monthly payments to Global debt management & unfortunately they are unable to help, i have statements going back to 2001 showing that payments were made but, dont have any loan account or reference numbers to refer to. Will wait to see if GDM get back to me by Monday & then i will sort out an SAR, as i took the loan with A&L is it them i send the SAR to or GDM?
Received a letter from A&L today with reference to GDM, no luck there either. They have also mentioned about getting in contact with Experian to check my credit file so, will send a letter to them as it seems to be the last resort in this episode with A&L.
