Had a ticket but not in the correct place £50 fine!
I have just been to my local shops and parked in the council run car park. I purchased my ticket and put it on the back window of my van. I usually park with the front against a fence and have always put the ticket on the back for ease of view. I parked the other way round today and they gave me a ticket for not displaying the ticke on the dashboard. I must admit it does say to display the ticket on the dash but I have never noticed this before. When we returned to the van a very irrate lady was waiting for us to tell us what had happened. She said she told the warden when he was already writing the ticket that the he had missed the ticket as it was on the back but he didnt want to know. She was furious on our behalf because as she said 50% of the cars in the car park didnt have their tickets on the dash but mainly on the side windows. She told him he was discriminating against us and in that case he should ticket all of the other cars which of course he didnt. Does anyone know if there is anything we can do. I have taken phone pictures of other cars (not their reg) to send to the council to ask why us and not the other 50% of cars. Any help appreciated folks.
Re: Had a ticket but not in the correct place £50 fine!
Ok, first off do not pursue the argument of they ticketed me, but not the other cars as the council will not like this. However, what I would suggest is writing a friendly letter advising of the circumstances and enclose a copy of the ticket. If you catch them on a good day they might spare you. If this fails then the others will be along to assist.

Appreciate the reply but what I would really like to know is, can they issue me and not the other cars with a ticket. As far as upsetting them goes who gives a flying fig. They have discriminated against me and it shouldnt be down to whether they are in a good or bad mood and I upset them!

I fully appreciate your feelings; however, if they state that tickets must be displayed in a certain place then if they are not a contravention has occured and a penalty can be issued. However, this is only in principle. I would need you to post your photo's to comment specifically on your case. With regards to discrimination, they are lawfully able to do this as the Police are allowed to issue one speeder with a fine but let another go free for a similar offence. Remember, if you upset the council they are less likely to cut you a break that is all.
