    Default Car blows head gasket after two months

    Hi All,

    I bought a used 2000 Saab 93 with 59k miles from a dealer in Edinburgh. The head gasket has just blown. I've had the car for 2 months and 1 week and only driven 500 miles since I got it. Do I have any comeback on the dealer?

    Cheers
    Kev

    Provided the dealer can't claim abuse, failing to check levels etc something you can dispute if he does, you do have grounds.

    My advice is have it examined by another engineer & armed with that report return & demand it be 'fully' repaired or your money back

    Within 6 months of purchase it's up to the seller to prove that it was ok when sold. After 6 months you must so it's important you deal with this ASAP

    What was the cause of the blown gasket itself?

    @JonCris - cheers for the reply - no abuse on my part. I'd be happy just to have the car repaired.

    If the dealer accepts the fault, are they responsible for collection of the car/paying third party to get it back to them? I live 50 miles away from them. What about a replacement car whilst it's the Saab is being repaired?

    @MrShed - I have no idea. I'm not a mechanic.

    Fair enough - but you need to get this information from a mechanic. For example, did a failed radiator cause it? etc etc.

    Before having it repaired by another garage you must in all fairness, & if you don't intend to reject it now, give the selling dealer an opportunity to repair 1st

    Yes you can claim the additional costs incurred by you. However before you do anything it's important you have it examined by an independent engineer. That'll save many arguments later

    Hi Jon,

    I was going to ask the selling dealer to do the repairs in the first instance.

    Thanks for info.
