Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Got one of these yesterday, about to pay and thought I'd look it up and VERY glad I found this site. Will hold out as suggested.
I do have a couple of questions that I've not seen answered yet.
First, if they (or debt collectors they refer me to) get my details from DVLA are they likely to phone? They could easily look me up on the internet and get both my home and work number (my name is uncommon).
Although I know I can complain to police about harassment, the reality is that I'm happy to deal with letters, but not for my family to be inundated with phone calls.
Second, regarding proving I was the driver, IF (yes, I realise, huge IF) it went to court I presume the judge would just ask me if I was the driver. Even without proof, I presume (unless you lie), then it's game up.
Am very grateful to whoever makes this forum work, adn the excellent contributors. It's been a huge help. I'm fed up of these private firms acting like I've parked on a zebra crossing outside a school whilst offering sweeties to the kids. I'M NOT A CRIMINAL.
Re: "Civil Penalty Notice" from Town and City Parking
Thanks.
Would still welcome any experiences from people on the phone calls. It will annoy my employer if they ring at work, and be embarassing, and presuming they ring at home in the daytime then it will be my wife that deals with it, which I don't want.
A genuine concern for me. I know lots on here seem to almost enjoy the rough and tumble of fighting these things. But I don't!

Hi, i havent had any personal calls/calls to work from PPC's but perhaps some of the other Caggers have. As far as DCA's go if you look on the DCA Forum many do call you at work regardless but it seems only in relation to banking issues etc. Havent seen any regarding parking invoices. I stand to be corrected however.

Re: "Civil Penalty Notice" from Town and City Parking
phone calls are very rare. Don't hold you breath waiting for one.
The couple we have heard about try a couple of times at most before giving up, so don't expect to be inundated.
I get silent calls all the time at work. I have no problem hanging up on idiots!
It's nigh on impossible getting people to pay on the phone anyway, even when they genuinely do owe money. The rare phonecalls we see are basically only those hoping to catch an elderly or ignorant person. Hanging up, putting them on hold for ever or telling them to get lost soon makes them give up.
It is a soul destroying job being hung up on all day after all. That's why parking companies don't bother. Their [problem] is mail based at the end of the day.
