Can I cancel a policy when no money has been taken?
I took out a taxi insurance policy with Norwich Union through a broker on 11th January 2009. I was issued a cover note and told that the first payment would be taken by direct debit 14 days after the 11th and the second payment taken on the 16th February 2009 and that my certificate of motor insurance would be issued after the first payment.
The payment was not taken after 14 days or on the 16th February, I called the broker to ask why the payment hadnt been taken after the 14 days had elapased and they said that they would take both payments on the 16th February. This did not happen either and to date the direct debit is still not set up on my account. In the meantime my covernote expired and after a lot of chasing they finally sent me out a second one.
As I havent paid any money and I havent received a certificate of insurance, am I within my right to cancel this poilcy and should I have to pay any cancellation fee?
