Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Ok so basically i have got myself in a mess and now i need urgent help. I finally admitted last night that i am not going to win the lottery and everything isn't just going to disappear. I have around £12000 of debts and wasn't paying things so that i could afford to feed my children. One of these debts is to lbl who unless i pay the remainder of the full agreement today £2250 they are going to seize my car. For my other debts i have got in touch with a debt management company and am dealing with those with their help. Now back to lbl, there is no way i can get that money today or for that matter even in the next couple of weeks though could pay some of it but i gather from reading other posts on here that things are going to turn nasty and lbl don't seem concerned that i can't feed my children. The question is, do i try and hide my car to give me more time or are there any other options rather than turning it over to them. As a point to note i live in a rural area, (out in the sticks), so to speak and without a car i couldn't get to work or get my children to school, doctors appointments etc. Please help as i am beside myself with worry and just don't know what to do.
Hide your car if you want, what is it they have said that you are beside yourself with worry?
Repo'ing your car?.
That is the easiest problem to solve, how old is your car and what condition is it in?
Never mind how much you owe coz that does not reflect the value of the car just the debt.
As soon as you come back with that information I will tell you what you need to do next, you can get an idea of the value of your car by comparing it on autotrader.co.uk as they have a massive range, or if you wish post the details (not your reg number) just make model year of manufacture, mileage and condition its in.
Oh Boy, what would your opinion be on a company who, say, took vehicles and then refused to return them even after being served a court order demanding such?
That is disobidience of a court order to which the directors would be liable to arrest. If you give more info on that I would be more than happy give additional advice.
There is no need to give advice as the matter has been dealt with - but this is an example of the behaviour of LBL and their network of agents, this is what people are up against. There is no need for clashing head-on re: LBL, but there a few of us on here with 1st hand experience of their unlawful and unethical methods and it is this on which we base any advice to others.
The world of DCA's, bailiffs etc is full of bad reports as everyone seeks to justify their own perceived grievances some warranted some not so - but it does not help your line of business when companies like LBL are literally running amock and behaving illegally; misrepresenting bailiffs, the powers of the High Court and all in between.
There is enough known about LBL, from the way the business operates at a grass roots level to the company structure, the directors, their solicitor, their agents & the ongoing legal battles to justify the advice given by some of us on this forum.
Hi,
Sorry been offline for a bit, anyway an update on the whole situtation, my other half went to take my car to a friends farm who lives in the middle of nowhere and who was more than happy to keep it there, on the way there something, (dog, fox etc) ran out in front of him, as such he ended up hitting a brick gate post and then ended up going through a fence into a ditch. We got the car towed out and my insurance company have now taken it to assess it, however they are considering it as a write off so where on earth do i stand now with log book loans, trade value of the car is roughly £3000 to £3500 i think, it is a 54 plate seat ibiza with 25000 miles on the clock, now really no idea what is coming next, also since i got the letter stating full balance of £2250 had to be payed by 13th February i have heard nothing.
Ok, well that would certainly be helpful and debt then gone but i have heard stories of the company saying a debt is paid and then coming back for more money, could they tell my insurance company that i actually owe more than i do?
