I took an insurance policy with Allan and Allen agents, which is for Norwich Union, and when i was taking up the insurance, i had an international lisence, and talked to a lady whom we agreed over the phone that once i get my full uk licence, they will review my policy. The policy is worth $1115pounds pery year.
When i was taking up the policy, I had to get a letter from my insurance company in my country to prove that i had not made any claims in the last 6years that i have been driving.
I got my full uk licence last week, called the guys to let them know so that they can review my policy, only to be told that the premium is going to be high. So when i tried to ask the gentleman i was talking to how comes its going to be higher, he was like he will have to talk to the insurer, then call me back. On calling me back, the guy tells me that the premium is going to remain the same, £126 per month.
I have had this insurance just for 1month and 9days.
When i told him that I would then like to cancel the policy, he told me that I will have to pay 40% of the policy amount plus 15% admistration fee. I paid a downpayment of $230, plus now £126 pounds for 1month, and he is like I will have to add $444 for cancelling, and the $168 for administration.
Is this really right, and can i go ahead and cancel my direct debit?
Please advise.
