Hi all, I could really do with your help
I have been unemployed since April 2008 but only started claiming benefits, JSA, since November.
I realised last month that I have been paying PPIs part of my monthly min payment on my Cap1 CC until last month and I am no longer able to do so as my savings are now gone.
I called the other day and asked to make a claim from the PPI to cover the payment and was advised that they would require certain information and would send me a form.
Today I received a letter that requests:
1 A signed declaration for Data Protection (attached)
2. Complete ABI 2 form (issued by job centre)
3. Evidence of payment of class 2 NI up till start of claim (BTW I was self-employed)
4 A copy of final accounts
5 Proof of business failure ie last tax return with local tax ofice.
I do not understand why, other than as a means to not pay out, they require all this information.
The declaration for data protection demands that "I confirm that I have not omitted any material information which would affect the Insurer's judgement of the claim" How can I possibly know what this is?
I am minded to respond by refusing to complete the declaration and with words to the effect: "It was good enough for the Benefits Agency - it will have to be good enough for you".
Then send off SARrequest and apply for misselling on the basis that I was a) self employed and b) have a pre-existing medical condition.
Your views will be appreciated
