Sky have to tell tell me 'I'm being recorded'
I had a call earlier from Sky, which I felt from the start was a sales call.
After the obligatory 'how are you?' and ' I trust the service is meeting your requirements' (words to that effect) yada yada...
He then 'had' to inform me the call was being recorded.
Went on to try and sell me some drivel (admits I couldn't have been less interested in his approach...been there, done that, and right or wrong, I never paid attention, because it was a yawnfest sales call). All my 'nah's' were met with the usual resistance, until I let him know he was wasting his time.
I have no idea what it was, didn't care.
But why did he tell me the call was recorded? I forgot the counter-obligatory 'ok - one tick, let me also record'. Shame on me!
I can't help but feel that was used to infer a sense of seriousness to the proceedings, and, well, balls to that.
A commercial organisation has to tell you that calls are (r may be) recorded. If you later dispute the content of the conversation (for example the agent has claimed you as a 'sale' or abusive, etc. then the recording will disprove this).
Any organisation selling financial products is required by regulation (FSA) to keep a recording of sales calls for 7 years in case of future mis-selling claims. Also, for many organisations, the person calling will be from an agency and not the company concerned. The client company will want both sales and quality of service recordings to monitor the contact centre's contract.
They cannot make use of any recording unless that inform you that the call is (or may be) recorded.
For you, as an individual, to make a recording of a telephone call, you are not required to inform the other party if the recording is for your own purposes only; the content may not be revealed to a third party.

Re: Sky have to tell tell me 'I'm being recorded'
Thanks Pat.
I think it stood out because of all the sales calls I get, I cannot remember one previous drone that said it! When I call them it, it is always said on the automated system.
