    Question Refund for faulty goods

Hi need some advice, I purchased a laptop case which has within 3 weeks started to fall apart, the store has agreed to a refund however I no longer have the charge card that it was purchased with, and the store has refused to refund to a debit card stating that they can only refund to the card on which it was purchased and have instead offered a credit voucher. How do I stand on this issue.

    Hi

    A very interesting point...

Presumably you actually WANTED the laptop you purchased? Why not just accept a replacement?

Having said that, the contract you entered into was between you and the retailer - NOT you, the retailer AND the charge card issuer...

I will flag this post to see if anyone more "in the know" has any suggestions...

    Cheers

I believe most shops won't refund a different card, as banks usualy charge to transfer money between different banks. Clever people could buy say a £1000 of computer equipment and return it the following day for a refund into their other account. Avoiding bank charges all together, or at least thats the reason Abbeyicon gave me in reguards to a customer having a refund onto a different card where I work.

I dunno if it was them just fobbing me off, or if it's true though.

So please seek advice from a professional if in any doubt.

I think they are being reasonable....however it might be worth sending a letter to the MD / Chief Exec of the company (are they a big chain ?) and stating that the item was faulty and would they please send you a cheque for the amount, explain your situation.....

When you say "charge card", what do you mean? One of their own store cards? If that is the case, they would be quite entitled to offer a credit voucher instead, since the credit had been extended from within their own group.

I had the same type of issue many yrs ago, when I still used to have to resort to Provident vouchers *spits*, I bought something in Dorothy Perkins, which I then needed to return and they wouldn't refund, only give me vouchers. I argued that this was actually diminishing my choice to shop (since the provi vouchers could be used in a lot more places) and that if that was their attitude, they should refund me in Provi vouchers too, but they wouldn't budge.

The only way for you to get the money in cash would be to find the info on the card, get the refund to that account then claim the refund off the card company (paid in full presumably?), which is a bit convoluted, I grant you. ;-)

Apologies to people who I was in the process of helping, I may be gone some time.
