Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I have just received a CAG e-mail from a new user. This person is a current employee of BH and was intrigued by the threads on here so much that they felt they had to comment. They have supplied some useful information which I have posted below, edited in places by me, as the user is as you can see, concerned. Therefore I have promised them anonymity for as long as they need.
"Hi. I have worked for Brighthouse for just over six months, and found this forum by accident. I have read a lot of the threads with interest, and find myself agreeing with the majority of it. The reason I am messaging you privately is because one of the first things I read was that Brighthouse read the forums, and I don't want to lose my job. I just want to defend myself here, I don't enjoy working there, as the principles are awful, however, in the current economic climate, I am sticking it out until I can find something else.
Just thought I'd input some of my limited knowledge, which I can't see written here anywhere.
OSC: this is worked out on a percentage of your weekly payment, depending on what is purchased. Brown goods, computing goods, bedroom furniture is all at 35% added on to weekly payment. White goods, sofas and anything else is 20%(THIS FIGURE PREVIOUSLY STATED 10% WHICH WAS WRONG!)
DLC: is 15% added on to the weekly payment... if OSC is added too, then it is 15% of the total weekly payment INCLUDING OSC.
I completely agree that OSC and DLC are rip-offs. However, as a sales person, there is immense pressure on us to sell these so-called optional extras, and if we don't meet our targets, we get it in the neck. In fact it is that bad now, that if the customer refuses to take OSC, we have to call the REGIONAL manager for his authorisation now.
References are also used as telesales targets. In our store, they are phoned as a last resort when trying to locate defaulted customers, however I do realise that every store has its own way of dealing with debt, and as I only sell, I don't know a great deal about the other side of it.
I hope this helps in a small way, and don't dislike me too much for working for the devil, I'm a good person really!
If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know, likewise, if there's anything I might be able to help with, please feel free to PM me.
Thanks for reading this, and if you want to put this on the forums, feel free."
I am in contact with this user and have asked if we can set-up a regular channel of communication with them, in order to give us an up-to-date feed on issues.
Are you being harrassed by a DCA or Brighthouse. Click the link for OFT Debt collection guidelines. Chances are, they could be in breach of some part of sections 2 or 3 or both!
I am pretty sure they will. I gather they are pretty keen on finding a better job, but it's a means to an end in the current climate.
The more the merrier!!
