Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I took my family to the Cinema yesterday (Sunday), and parked in the local car park, which is free on Sundays. We decided to have the car washed whilst we were away, and parked in a bay. The guy who was to wash the car said i would need to leave my keys with him as they would move the car to another bay when it had been cleaned........Not gonna happen, half of mine and my childrens life is in my car, and i dont want a stranger having access to it. So, i refused and he said i would have to move my car then. I refused and we went to the cinema. When we returned we had an unwashed car and a parking charge Notice for £100 or £50 if payed in 14 days!! The reason for the ticket was given as 'The vehicle was parked without authorisation'.Having now read a few of the other threads i assume that this ticket is not enforceable, and that they are thieving b****ds!
Met are well known. Expect 3 or 4 yellow letters with scary checked borders before they give up and go away.
Incidentally, if hell froze over and Met took on their first court case, it would be nothing to do with you - it would be the carwash guy's problem as he was the driver.
I think that must be grounds to counter claim against the car wash company for not carrying out the wash as per the verbal contract you established when you parked there.
I have always wondered about these by-hand car washes in paid for car parks. Does the washing company pay for the bays (full price or discounted) for their times of use. or is there a 'reciprocal arrangement' with the car park operator. If they pay for the bays and your car was in one then no invoice should have been issued. Seems like a flavour of the usual [problem] to me. I wonder of the operator gets a percentage from the car washers ?
I always wondered the same myself lamma. Guys at the local ASDA started with a bucket, but now have a full setup c/w generator and P.Washer. I figure they must have a license or permission from the BC or landowner.
1foxie, just keep your ticket and letters in a safe place, though you should never need them. I received four 'invoices' in total from MET and its been quiet since.
You mention that the car park was 'free on Sunday'. Out of interest, what was stated on the ticket?

Hmm..the usual nonsense from MET but with a bit of a twist. To quote the other posters,- it does seem to be a bit fishy. It seems spiteful with a sort of 'if i cant wash your car then it will be ticketed!!'- air about it! Would be worth investigating further 1foxie

Thinking further on this, I would not discount that the car washer is/was in fact the ticket issuer. Pure speculation of course.

The ticket was a parking charge notice, with a notice number, date of issue vehicle reg, make, the car park name, time and date, and a payment slip at the bottom.
easy way to find out. get a friend to do the same while you sit in your car at a discreet distance and observe. Zero risk with meaningless invoices. heck you could even video it.
