just discovered my van has outstanding HP payments
Hi, i bought my van 16 months ago and i got a letter in the post today from a finance company telling me that the van is leagally their asset, i bought the van from a second hand car dealer and the van was transfered into my name, can anyone tell me if i have any rights regarding this matter, i was made redudant from my job 4 months ago and this is the last thing i need.
Re: just discovered my van has outstanding HP payments
If you bought the van from a registered motor dealer then you can claim good title to the goods. The dealer who sold the van, however, has no such protection.
Get in touch with the finance company and tell them where you bought the van from (send them a copy of the sales invoice if you'ge got it). This will divert their attention, quite rightly, onto the dealer for the recovery of their money.

It will be traders responsibility to check and clear any outstanding finance before he sells it on. I would do a VOSA check on the mileage too. does not sound to clever this trader.
