    Default Interest

:-? My daughter bought a TV from Currys on the interesticon free plan. After 6 months she lost her job and could not pay the full amount at the end of the 10 months.
The long and the short of it is she's at month 47 out of 48, she asked HFC for a copy of the agreement to find out what the APR was and a statement as HFC says she still owes them £110 interest, plus 20 x £15 adminicon fees due.
My question is do these fees come under unfair fees/charges also,
If anyone has a Currys agreement from 2005 would you let me know the APR.

    Thanks.

if it is an "easiplan agreement it will be 23.9% or 24.9% can't remember exactly.
if its an interesticon free or interest "opt out" scheme it will be 29.5%.

    hope this helps

Thanks for the reply regarding the 29.5%.

Has anyone been able to get HFC to cancel these £15 unpaid fees which they say are due on the statement. Does my daughter have to pay them or can they be regarded as unfair bank charges. I know it didnt cost them £15 to make a call and send a template letter.

    Thanks.

I personally would certainly write to them, along the lines of the "prelim" letter requesting a refund. They will probably come back and say their charges are fair, but challenge them and then see what they come back with.

Keep this thread updated as to how you're getting on and then we can offer further help/advice if needed.

    Best wishes.

Halifax - £2281, successfully refunded all charges after LBA letter & telephone call.
Have been offered the difference between the £20 and £12 charges from Capital One -- am sending LBA for remainder.
GE Money - Received settlement of £441, being total charges requested. No interest though.
CCA'd Bank of Scotland / Blair Oliver Scott to produce CCA Agreements on two Credit Cards - well in default, although still chasing payment!!!

I don't know about fair charges and the like, as I'm not a specialist like some of the considerably more awesome people on here.

All I know is that the credit agreements do list in full all charges and reasoning behind them, on the first page of the agreement directly under the monetary details (amount owed, interesticon etc), the very same page you sign, four times. Not to be negative as I'm sympathetic to your case, but if I were the bank, and I were in court with you, I'd say that these charges were one of the first things mentioned on your agreement and you were under no pressure to sign the agreement if you did not agree to them.

Hopefully these charges are illegal, obviously you can do without having to pay another £300.

This is the very reason I warn people about interest free options at work. It's only really worth taking any credit at currys if your absolutely 110% sure you can pay it off before the end of the interest free peroid, and have a backup plan just incase as the interest is just shocking. Also salesmen get something called a cab, or one off payout (usualy £2-£5 per) for selling something to you on easiplan credit, because the store makes more money on it, as it's not interest free. Avoid easiplan at all costs, stick to interest free if you really must have credit.
