    Default i-Val computer repairs

NU use this mickey mouse company for their repairs how I wish I had read about them before agreeing to use them.

My PC had water spilled over the back which went into the PSU luckily it wasnt on so I dried it out left it for 24 hours then started it up lights came on fans all worked seemed fine but couldnt find any display then there was a nasty burning smell and it turned off.
I bought a new PSU and fitted it all seemed fine except there was no display found (tried 2 diff monitors) so I assumed it had damaged either the MB or the graphics card and so I decided to claim on my house ins which has accidental cover.

I was told the company i-Val would do the inspection and my PC would be collected so I boxed it up in the box it came in 2 years ago complete with foam top and bottom and air bags.

After 5 days they eventually said it was beyond repair and would ring me back with a decision they then phoned back and said it wasnt covered as it was pet damage...I had mentioned that my cat may have knocked the glass of water over but as I wasnt in the room I didnt know but obviously it was the water not the cat that did the damage.

After another 2 days where they refused to discuss the claim with me they then announced that they could find no water damage and that the computer case was all broken and that this was the reason for my PC not working !!

Needless to say I am extremely angry frustrated and upset they have basically called me a liar and broken my PC case and are now trying to blame me.

The case was an expensive one with a metal door covering the front drive bays and the PC was top of the range 2 years ago when I paid about £1200 for it.

I have phoned NU and complained and asked them to investigate but how do I prove what happened with the water? and that my PC was cosmetically in showroom condition?

    Hi barafundle

I work for NU, and if you would like to send me some details I'll be happy to get someone to look into this for you. My email address is rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk and if you could send your name and claim number I'll see what I can find out.

    Thanks
    Becca

i contacted aviva about damage done to my laptop in a fall from a table, ival contacted me and arranged collection, ival took my laptop mid november to asses it for an easy repair, i was promised secure sealed collection, i got a guy in a white van with a box????? i was promised contact within a few days, i contacted them over 2 weeks later on the 5th of dec only to be told theyd contacted me 10 days previously, and were awaiting my instructions????? i was told my laptop was beyond repair, and that id need a replacement??????? i was gobsmacked, a new laptop instead of a simple power jack repair, but hey who was i to argue, all i had to do was accept the offer and pay my excess and the new laptop would be with me the day after, ie the 6th dec, i paid my excess there and then by debit card, and was promised courier delivery between 9am and 8pm, i took the day off work, and you guessed it, no delivery, i rang at 6pm to check all was ok, and i was told theyd checked and the delivery would now be on the 7th, another day off work, again no delivery, again i rang at 6, again oh sorry its now tomorrow the 8th, again no work, again no delivery, yet another call, again next day delivery promised the 9th, then a change, they rang me at lunchtime and told me itd be the 10th, this went on until the 15th apart from sunday, every day being promised next day delivery, at this point we made an official complaint to a "manager" and were told the complaint had been logged, and we had to give them 48 hours to resolve it, but the laptop would definately arrive before then, 48 hours pass, no laptop so again we rang, to be told no such complaint had been logged and we had to start again and wait another 48 hours, by this time i was at the end of my patience, i rang Santandericon who we took out our policy with, they told me it was nothing to do with them and blamed aviva, i rang aviva, and they said it was down to ival, ival said it was nothing to do with them it was the courier, and the courier wont answer my calls?????? just before xmas a company called buy direct contacted me and asked how i liked my new laptop, by this time id lost the plot, we contacted ival again, and we were promised a second laptop would be sent, and we'd recieve it tomorrow, again day off, again no laptop, i rang ival to be told, you guessed it , it'll be there tomorrow definately, tomorrow came and i got a call from ival asking if id recieved it yet, i replied that i hadnt, and this was now 2 that theyd lost, i was then told no such 2nd item had been sent, and that they couldnt send a replacement because the item wasnt essential, so why was i lied to twice, again missing 2 days work, its now jan 5th over a month of waiting for ivals next day delivery, and lord knows how many phone callsicon, ival contacted me yesterday to see if i knew where the laptop was??????? HEEEELLLLLPP!

Hi all, just joined this forum for a bit of advice really so please excuse me if my "netiquette" isnt upto scratch. I am in the process of claiming for an expensive picture (£1200) and a desktop computer, the picture fell off the wall, hit the screen which then knocked something else containing a liquid into the hard drive.................aft er being interrogated by IVAL over 12 weeks ago, i am still no further forward. ive made dozens of calls, can never get to spk to my claims handler as she is always off sickicon, on the phone to someone else, or has left early. Much to my dismay i rang them again today only to find out that my claims handler is off sick again, but i was told that i am being sent a legal document to read, fill in, and sign.........however, they wouldnt/couldnt tell me what this document is about(its not a settlement offer, they did tell me that) i am becoming extremely angry and upset with these people, does ANYONE have any idea what this document may be? thx in advance for any replies/help
    shaz

Hi a bit of advice for all of you with the computer problems you are now dealing with the claims side of Aviva The insurance company with the most complaints to the financial omnbudsman. You will probably now realise that although they are very efficient at collecting in your premiums unfortunately they show an incredible lack of efficiency when they have to pay out on a claim.

When you take out insurance with Aviva you are entering a binding contract that is supposed to work 2 ways ie you pay your premium and they insure you, it is their duty to sort out any problems you have with i-val and they should process the claim in a proffessional manner something which is obviously missing in these cases as with my own claim.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your claim you can ask Aviva for a Subject access requesticon - under the data protection act 1998.They are then bound legally to supply all internal documents, copies of phone callsicon, correspondence with i-val etc in fact everything they have regarding your claim it only costs £10 and they have to supply this to you in 40 days.Send a recorded letter to - The data Protection team,Aviva insurance UK,Level 2,Pitheavlis,Perth,PH2 ONH.As a matter of interesticon who owns I-val - not Aviva i hope.

Go to ifaonline.co.uk and read how Aviva have been forced to withdraw their misleading annuity advert from the tv by the advertising standards authority.

hope you get sorted out but im not holding my breath.its like the saying if you are happy with a service you tell 10 people if you are unhappy tell 100.make sure you tell another 99 people and then they can avoid the type of service you and me have had to endure.

Im with the NFU now and they are a reputable and honest company who I have dealt with previously and never had a problem with.I wish I had never dealt with Aviva and it appears im not alone.

P.S shaz - Aviva must put the healthy people in the new business department and the ill people in the claims department - have you noticed how the people who take your premium are never off sickicon ?

the thing is, i intend to try to get compensation for lost time at work, plus phone callsicon etc, but who do i ask for it, is it aviva, ival or citylink couriers who are supposed to have the parcel, and is county courticon the best way to go if all else fails?

The above two post says to me that the subject heading should be changed to Aviva Complaint so that search engines can pick it up and others will be forewarned.

I will add that I know from bitter experience that they are a dishonest company and the customer is there to feather 'their' nest and not be genuinely covered by them.

You could try the omnbudsman but you will have a long wait as they are very busy.I would do you Subject access requesticon first and get all of your information back and then go to county courticon and claim for everything lost time, phone callsicon etc.Your insurance is with Aviva, they were happy to take your premium and it is their job to process your claim in an efficient manner. Ival are contracted to carry out repair work for Aviva and City link are a very efficient company and have probably done exactly as instructed by the others.

When you get all your paperwork back from your Subject access requesticon like me you will get a clearer picture of exactly what has happened with your claim.I wouldnt take a lot of notice of what they tell you on the phone as when I had my claim they insisted several times that the weather conditions were not adverse although i knew this was incorrect they also told me several other lies but this seems to be the standard with Aviva to avoid paying out at all costs.
    Good luck.

When I got their internal memo I found out they had done a check with weatherquest and found that as I had stated the weather was adverse and they go on to say it will be difficult to repudiate the claim if I was made aware of this so they with held it from me.They are greedy greedy greedy and are incapable of telling the truth - do your subject access request and I know you will find out a lot more about how your case has been dealt with.

Another unhappy Aviva customer there are plenty of us about.Go to www.dailymail.co.uk and type 'aviva shamed' into the search box and read that story and you wont believe it - I wouldnt want to type 'Aviva complaint' into any search engines I wouldnt have the time to read them all !
