    Default Is this libelous?

    I made a forum comment on another forum about a company

    'barge and pole'

    I said I couldnt exactly remember the problem with them but i remembered something last year I read


    OK silly but you cant eidit posts


    they are now threatening me with legal action and demanding an apology

    Should I apologise? or ignore them, i think their attitude in ther email shows the type of people they are

    its a small company i wont mention, i then said abut them t hreatening legal action and thy came back at me again, for saying that!

    the society removed the posts and were very very helpful

    but really mad people . yes thats all I said

    It has to be untrue to be defamatory, your opinion cannot be untrue because it's just your opinion.

    If you tell a blatant lie they have a case if it could damage their reputation eg I have a lousy meal at a restaurant do I
    a. tell everyone it was awful and I wouldn't go near the place again
    b. tell everyone they use rancid meat and mouldy bread

    The first is my opinion and is quite valid, the second could land me in court - of course if I could prove it was a true statement I'd still be OK.
