I have just found this website in my hunt with what to do about my Barclaycard, any advice on this is welcome.
It started in October 08, I went into Barclays bank to pay a bill over the counter and was asked if I would like a Barclaycard as they are offering a 0% for the next few months. My existing credit card has just finnished it's 0% offer so I thought I would find out more. I sat down with someone and they took my details, asked how much I would like to transfer and I did not know exactly so they rang them to get a total, £26??.
She then said that is fine printed out the form I signed it and she said I do not need to do anything else, when I get the statement from my existing credit card it will be £0 and Barclay card with have the transfer and the fee. This did not happen.
On my next existing cards statement £800 was credited and my Barclaycard statement ballance was £800 plus the fees! This is useless to me as I have now split my ballance and have two credit card payments to pay each month! If they would only let me have £1000 surley they should of told me that before they transfered amy money!
I went back into the same barclays bank and spoke to the same lady who sold me the card. She rung them to ask why and they said they said I have to activate the card for them to do anything so I did then they said my credit limit is £1000 and I can only transfer 80% of this! She told them she does not have the information to tell me my credit limit so how is she ment to sell the card but they just kept repeating that I can only have £1000!
She pass the phone back to me and I made a excalated complaint and requested a manager to contact me from Barclaycard stating that I was extreemy unhappy with the service and want the funds put back as it is not what I agreed.
I then recieved a letter telling me my credit limit is £1000 and they are sorry I am not happy with that! Anyway I have called them 8 times requesting a manager call back which only happened twice! The first time telling me they will try to extend my limit but I never heard back then last time in December when I was told they will not put it back to how it was like I have been asking all along and if I did I must pay all the fees involved!!!!!
What rights do they have to do this and what can I do?
This sounds like a right kerfuffle. It is bonkers that they couldn't tell you in the branch that you'd only be able to get a £1K limit with an £800 xfer limit - if they had told you this, I'm sure you'd have refused to open the new BC a/c.
You'll likely get nowhere pursuing this on the phone - sort it out in writing and then you have a proper record of all that's said.
I assume you would want this resolved in one of two ways :-
1. BC give you the limit you want and xfer the remaining balance over from your other card onto the BC a/c.
OR
2. BC close your a/c and transfer the balance back over to the other a/c. This would require the co-operation of the other a/c operator.
In any event, BC have a duty to ensure you have not lost out financially whether you go for options 1 or 2.
Decide how you want this resolved, write a brief summary of events on a schedule in date order and send this with a Formal Complaint letter to BC's Head Office.
Tell them they have 14 days to resolve this or you'll make a formal complaint to the fos.

A simpler option may be to speak to the other card operator, explain the trouble you've had with BC and ask if they'd allow you to transfer the balance back to your other card.
You could try and arrange a new 0%, or reduced rate %, on the old card at the sme time.
If they did this, it would leave a small balance on the BC a/c for the transfer fee, which you can tell BC to write off.
