    Default Citicard cancel card and still add interest and charges

    I had a Citi card which expired the end of Nov 2008. I received a letter from Citi saying they cannot issue me with a replacement. At that time the card was within its limit and I had been paying on time.I had some charges on this card dating back a few years so i sent a letter basically asking for them back or I would put in a complaint with fosicon. Now the charges plus interest came to more than the balance so I offered for them to close the account with a zero balance and I would not pursue them for the remaining amount. (which was only a small amount)After approx 4 weeks I received a reply, bog standard stuff saying they would respond within 4 weeks etc etc. I am still waiting for their response.In the meantime I am receiving phone callsicon, which I am ignoring. I have received 2 statements since with interest and charges applied to them which has now taken the card over the limit and I have a late payment marker on my credit file.Since this account was put in dispute at the time I received the letter saying they weren't renewing my card can they still operate the account in the same way? Thanks in advance for any replies

    OK, Citi being their normal self.

    What I would suggest doing is paying the minimum balance not to damage your credit file any further.

    At present the OFT vs Banks case is under appeal, its likely that the banks will try and drag this out as much as possible.

    I would suggest lodging a complaint with the fosicon, though they'll take about 6 months to get around to dealing with it, either that or submitting a county courticon claim with the correction to your credit file as an added part (though its likely it will get stayed).

    Basically Citi will not pay you one penny if they can get away with it.

    Thanks for the reply Enron. I understand why you say to pay the minimum, when I have filed my complaint with the fosicon should they continue to charge interesticon and add charges.I know Citi think they are a law unto themselves so i guess they will do what ever they want whenever they want.The thing that gets me is they decided not to renew my card when it expired. So they made the choice to end the agreement, (for the last couple of years I have made payments on time and have been a good cutomer) how can they carry on adding fees and interest.Want their cake and eat it too. times must be hard for them

    Think they are legally allowed to add interesticon until they terminate an account.

    That said the moral right to do this is very questionable when a balance consists the majority of penalty charges or all of penalty charges.

    Thank again Enron. It is so frustrating. My view is they have terminated the account by not renewing my card.Going to sent complaint to fosicon

    Update

    I sent my complaint to fosicon and Citi have paid back all charges plus 8% interesticon.

    The complaint through the FOS only took approx 4 weeks. Then another 4 for Citi to pay up.

    Funny thing is they added 2 more charges because they took so long to pay up so I phoned them and asked if they would refund them or should I start another complaint with the FOS, the guy said "I will ask my boss" and came back and said "I have refunded them they will show on your next statement"

    Thats it now, my affair with Citi is over, well I don't owe them anything else.

    Now they owe me the cardholders protection they have been adding. I sent a SARicon to them they have failed to comply so I have reported them to ICO. I am going to put a complaint to the FOS for refund of the cardholder protection. (hopefully they will be just as helpful)

    I cant believe this isn't over yet.

    As I said earlier Citi refunded my charges which almost cleared my balance. I recieved my monthly statement and paid the remaining amount the following month I received another statement with a balance of £1 so I thought this maybe interesticon and paid the pound and thought that would be the last of it but noooooooo I recieved another statement the other day with interest again of £1.

    I have tried phoning them but everytime we get cut off so I have given up phoning them.

    I am not going to pay another £1 interest on a zero balance, they can go whistle for it.

    I still have a claim to make with regards to PPIicon but I was going to make sure my balance was cleared before i started that one.

    Some departments will become involved, some pass the buck and transfer it to consumer direct.

    Another update and hopefully conclusion.

    I sent a letter first asking why they keep charging me £1 each month for no service and second requesting CRP refund. They sent letter back saying they would refund the £1s they had charged and they would close my account. as for the CRP they replied saying they wouldn't refund as I had ask for it. I sent letter back saying prove it they sent a letter saying they would refund all payments made.:grin:

    Just waiting for the cheque and then that the end of me and Citi forever:grin::grin::grin:

    Once you get that sorted out and your account is cleared, walk away and never take out a product associated with Citi again.

    That said would be nice to have you stick around and possibly help people if they are in a similar situation or require some moral support.

    Totally agree with you Enron. Citi are a nasty lot and I will be staying well clear from now on.
