Debit card frozen but not by Abbey....Any advice please!!!
Hi all,
Went to withdraw money today from the joint account i share with my wife, and the cashpoint told me there was a problem with my card. Tried two other cashpoints and the same problem occured, couldn't withdraw money. Checked the balance and nothing has been taken out unlawfully, and balance is healthy in credit. My wife has checked and she can still use her card and withdraw money etc. Have been into the Abbey and they have no markers on the account and didn't seem too bothered. Nevertheless i have cancelled my card and ordered a new one. What worries me is that yesterday i received a letter in the post, supposedly from Abbey account security, very official looking, asking me to contact them by phone as there may be a problem from my account. I took this letter into the branch today and they say it is a [problem], they have sent no such letter and would never do this and ask for my details via the post. The thing is, is it just a coincidence that i can't use my account just after the letter has arrived. Is it possible for any [problem]mer to freeze the activity on my account? Has anyone heard of anything similar? Although i have ordered a new card, i am worried that someone has my address and can create such a sophisticated [problem]. Any advice would be appreciated.

There was a problem on the link network today for a while, this also happened on Saturday so i think the non withdrawal was down to that rather than any [problem]mers blocking your account.
