I obtained a loan from HSBC a few years ago and took PPI insurance. The amount of which was taken in a lump payment from the loan. About a year later I got an extention on my loan meaning i took more money over a longer period but the person on the phone informed me that because I had already taken PPI previously that I would only be eligable if i agreed to take PPI again. I was wondering if I was able to cancel my PPI and get a refund or would I have to claim for mis-sold policy?
That is misselling - PPI can not be a condition even if you have had it before
You should be able to cancel but they tend to make that difficult and the will quote you a very small reduction in monthly payments which tends to put most people off
If you can keep you head when all of those around you are losing theirs try parking your helicopter somewhere else
I don't know about canceling it as I don't have a laon with HSBC
Regards reclaiming there are a couple of template letters which you can borrow and adapt - essentially it takes the form of a formal complaint where you state why you feel you were mis sold the policy and demand it all back - and then they usually say no so you have to take it a bit further

Ok i've found a template letter but I do not know my policy number as I have misplaced my papers. Whats the best way in asking HSBC for a copy of my files?
