    Default Extended Warranty and Fair Wear and Tear clause???

    Quick background!!! Bought Grand Scenic DCI1.9 120 Privilege in May 2007, Renault warranty till October then extended warranty till Oct 2009. First 7 months from 37 000 to 44 000 miles lovely drive! New Year 07/08 dashboard blew up and heater resistor pack failed!!! Warranty paid and repaired. Jan 08 proximity door locks failed, again warranty honoured and repaired. Feb 08 oil very sludgy and low, booked in for service 6 000 short of recommended, and since service the following. 1 week after, back in due to low oil, after a few weeks Turbo replaced with intercooler and inlet pipes. 2 weeks later back in low oil, Renault advise NFF. Back in again after top up 1 week later, after a few weeks accelerator housing replaced due to leak. Car has been in and out nearly every second week till November. Renault says Turbo faulty again, sent away. Turbo fine but damage to several fins. Again repaired and extended warranty covered cost. Back in again December mid month and still there, Renault advise new engine, but extended not accepting, as report says fair wear and tear!!!!! Car has done 55 000 and this has been an issue since Jan/Feb 08. Engine has also had 2 engine flushes and several heater plugs, but bores well worn, big end shells are picking up. Renault feels excessive for mileage, and would not expect to see such damage at current mileage. Extended say normal, but still no confirmation on why I use 1 litre of oil for every 500 miles.

    I would not accept that at 55k the engine needs to be replaced is fair wear and tear; have you asked renault for a contributionicon especially if it has full renault servce history. Your dealer should put a claim in for you.
    Alternatively go for the dealer that sold you the car if that is who you have been dealing with up to now.
    If it is another one you may have problems as these failings have not been refrred to them.
    If it is on HP they may be able to help as it is their car!

    Thanks for the reply. I sought legal advice and was told to go for the dealer, as they have always been in the loop. They have carried out most of the attempted repairs to date, as Arnold Clark Renault were useless. I have sent dealer an ultimatium which he has missed, so referred to a solicitor.

    Even a small car with a 1,000cc engine where it is worked hard should not show the signs of wear that are materialising on your car until way in excess of 100,000 miles.

    Unless the previous owner(s) racked it or the mileage is incorrect, you definately have an inherent mechanical problem.

    How do they know that the shells are picking up, have they removed the sump and a bearing cap to check?

    Contacted previous owner and all was well 37 000 over 2 and half years, but serviced correctly.
    I instructed them to investgate the engine as the turbo was damaged from sometjing in the engine, thus they have the head and sump of. I had directed my complaint to the dealer who disputes this as I aknowledge I got dates wrong. Oil issue arose after MOT\Service in May 2008, but was reported 4 weeks prior when booked in as it was still 6000 miles away from next service. Dealer also quoted me that I had done approx 20 000 miles in the car and deemed this considerable. I informed him that if i did this in a new car I could expect a new engine before 3 years were up then!!! In relation to my original post I didn't metion the list of electical faults that has been repaired on this car since a month after I purchased it.
    I am now unsure what to do as dealer is rejecting claim, warranty don't want to know, and Renault want £5000 for new engine.
