    Default Is this dental malpractice?

    Hiya!

Wonder if anyone could offer me advice.

Had a veneer replaced on one of my front teeth in May 2008, the dentist was incredibly rough in getting the veneer off, then proceeded to file my tooth underneath back so hard i was in an awful lot of pain for months. He said this was to be expected, my veneer was replaced and the result looked good.

Fast forward to 7 days ago, an abscess forms at the root of the tooth, i am in agony, another dentist at the practice tells me the root is dead and i will need a root canal to save the tooth.

I burst into tears on the chair, proceeded to cry all over the receptionist and still feel very upset now. I have never had so much as a filling in 33 years, i look after my teeth very carefully, and now through no fault of my own in have got to pay £200 to have a root canal as my tooth has died.

The receptionist has booked me in to see the dentist who performed the procedure on Tuesday morning. It would be useful to know if i have any rights or whether i have to accept this was a possible side effect that noone can be held accountable for. At the very least i think i should have the root canal treatment free of charge, but im not sure whether i have any right to suggest it.

    Thanks very much.

That must have been a terible experience for you.

As to malpractice it would depend on what a dental expert witness's view was.

You may receive different advice to your query as people have different experiences and opinions. Please use your own judgement in deciding whose advice to take.

If in doubt seek advice from a qualified insured professional. Any advice I have offered you is done so on an informal basis, without prejudice or liability.
