Im a newbie to this site so firstly.....HELLO everyone
Ive been a member of a website called the fiat forum for a few years where i i have explained a lot of things to people about the problems i have had with my cars, but as im new here i wont bore you with everything and will try to get straight to the point in the shortest way possible.
Bought a brand new punto in 2004 - had multiple problems including brake failure which is why i finally traded it in for another brand new Fiat ( owed more on the finance than the car was worth and the dealership paid over the odds as part ex as a goodwill gesture to get me out of the car )
May 2006 - Got my brand new Fiat Grande punto. Had multiple problems once again and was told by the dealership to take it for an MOT as i thought it was un-roadworthy. Took it for the MOT and it FAILED and was deemed dangerous to drive ( steering rack ).
After lengthy conversations with the dealerships directors, finance company and fiat UK, the dealership finally offered to replace it for a brand new car like for like as a goodwill gesture.
The car was replaced in early september 2006. Shortly after getting the car it all started going wrong again. 2 days before i was due to go on holiday ( late september ) i was told that the car needed a new clutch ( 700 miles on the clock ). Went on holiday came back and was told it couldnt be changed because fiat uk wouldnt authorise it.
I had numerous other faults up to the date i VT'd the agreement.......(novemver 2008).
I had wrote continously to the finance company, the dealership and fiat uk during the 2 years i owned the car stating i was unhappy and that i was sold a faulty car. The car had been back and forth to the dealership 96 times in the 2 years of ownership and had over 2000 pounds of new parts fitted under warranty.
I no longer have the car as it was just too much grief and now have a Ford lol, but my question is.....where do i stand legally? can i take the finance company, the dealership or Fiat uk to court for damages/compensation?
The finance company always denied owning the car as did the dealership, even though i know the finance company owned the car as it was a conditional sale agreement and when i said id sell it then, they told me i couldnt lol.
So please.....any help would be much appreciated as i feel that i am owed some sort of compensation for the grief these cars have caused me over the past 4 years.
Are all the problems and out of pocket costs documented in black and white or was there multiple phone calls and face to face complaints ?
If they are phone/face to face, that will make your quest much harder to prove. Although verbal has as much standing as written in law, it's the proof by written documentation that will give you any chance of success.
Trading Standards wants your help

Hi and thanks for the wecome.
Everything i said on the phone was always put into writing. I tried to recind the agreement about 2 months after the 3rd car but i could get no where regardless of the letters and threats of court action. I tried to reject the car and once again hit a brick wall.
I went to the CAB contacted FLA, SMMT, OFT, and trading standards but no one could really tell me what to do.
Im glad ive got rid of the car but i do feel im entitled to something for the problems the cars had over this 4 year period.
It's a shame we don't have a 'lemon law' as they do stateside.
I'm not sure if you have a case that would hold up in court for some form of compensation, i'll leave that to those that know best, but you may get something out of Fiat in material compensation if you ask.
