Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I googled 'New Peugeot 207 problems' and CAG came up - hence my registering with the forum.
Basically I've had the car for 20 months, done only 4500 miles (I use public transport whenever I can) and the clutch has burnt out. On Christmas Eve I had to call out the Breakdown service and it is now with the Dealer's servicing section. They have deemed the problem to be 'wear and tear', not a manufacturing fault and state that it is probably because I have been "riding the clutch". They therefore state that it does not fall under the warrantly conditions and I will have to pay for a replacement.
I am so fed-up, because I've never had anything like this happen to me before. There I was driving slowly up a hill locally, when this acrid smell appeared and then smoke was pouring out from under the bonnet. I was absolutely petrified. the breakdown man immediately diagnosed it as a 'burning clutch'.
I've been driving consistently for the past 26 years, have not been involved in any accidents, have a clean dirver's licence and a full no claims bonus. I've had 5 previous cars from new (different manufacturers) and never had anything like this happen. Even old bangers have proved more reliable.
I have informed them that I will dispute this. The warranty conditions state that exceptions include "abuse" and that basically this is what I'm supposed to have perpetrated on the car, causing wear and tear, which is not covered.
If I had to pay up (which I'm determined not to do), I would be liable to pay around £900.
I would be grateful for any assistance/advice/comments. Thanks
I pressume the car bought NEW and is only 20 months old total?
if it is, then something really is wrong to fail after only 4500 miles;
I would wait and see what they say once it has been stripped to see what the problem was; it could have many causes? get them to keep all the replaced parts for inspection and you can ask for a peugeot engineer or your own to inspect and report. Stick to your guns though this should not have happened so early and is not normal wear and tear!
