Default Parking in Imperial Wharf SW6.

This is a private area in Fulham. There are signs warning that cars parked in the wrong place will be clamped and removed at costs of £150 and £25 respectively. They managed to clamp and remove a car within ten minutes but now seem unable to provide the name and the SIA number of the clamper. Does one need to do an SARicon or are they supposed to provide it anyway?

When you pay to have your vehicle released, the wheel-clamper must provide a receipt which includes the following information:
    • the place where the vehicle was clamped

    • their name and signatureicon

    • their SIA licence number (a 15 digit number on the front of their licence)

    • the date.
Licensed wheel-clampers should also wear their SIA licence where you can see it at all times when they are working. You can check whether someone has a valid SIA licence by looking on a public register of licences on the SIA website at www.the-sia.org.uk, or from the SIA call centre on 08702 430 100.

This is all covered in the clamping guide in the stickies section.

They must as terms of their license provide a receipt with their SIA.

Any breach can be reported to the police. Under the PSI Act there are stiff penalties for using unlicensed individuals. The landowner and the security firm can both be done under the legislation.

When you do complain make it clear that it is this breach of the PSI act that you want investigated.

You should also report the firm to the SIA (www.thesia.org.uk). Usually they are pretty toothless but do occasionally take action.
