Default What effect is it having? I am confused

    Hi all,

Just looking for some health advice.

I am now 20 years old, Let me give you a Breakdownicon of whats happened.

When I was 18, I got an Eggicon card with £500 limit, did the usual, wow I've got some money, I will buy a few bits. I soon got more credit, first Direct gave me £1600 in total and Capital Oneicon 100. Shortly after my 18th, I started to gamble. Looking to make some money to spend, I started to gamble larger amounts after winning small amounts i.e £10 bet, winning £15. I started to then gamble £200-300 a time. Won a few times but as they say, the bookmaker always wins. I lost all my money, every last penny was gone and I was over £3000 in debt. Only earnings £80 a week, It was a real struggle. But as I lived with the parents, I didnt need to pay bills/rent etc.

When I was 19, I met my long term girlfriend who I adore. She helped me get over my gambling addiction, She got pregnant and we now have a darling little daughter who is nearly 1! Gone so quickly.

We moved into our own place and managed to clear out debts thanks to my grandad given me 3k. So I was then debt free, own house etc. However after living with the parents for 19 years, I had no furniture, nothing. I took out new cards and a loan for 2.6k. I only earn £13500 and topped up with benefits and a part time job to £20,000. We live on a very tight budget and with price rises, we are in negative budget figures, I simply cannot afford to live anymore, we owe around 5.5k. Whilst I make payments for everything, it leaves me with no money for anything i.e essential clothes, repairs, emergency s. I have looked into debt managementicon, consilidation loans etc but debt managementicon is'nt for me and I don't have the £100 a month needed spare, and cannot get a loan even from bad credit loan companies.

It is having a major strain on myself, I am feeling very low, like I cannot provide for my family and depressed. I find it hard to talk about debt. My parents were not impressed first time round so I don't want to run to help for help again.

I don't know if I should go see a doctor and if I do, whats he/she going to do about it. I don't know what effect its having on me to be honest, I am always tired but sleeping fine, My head is always hurting and banging, My chest feels tight from being anxicous. Who should I talk to/go see. I don't want to be signed off work, as one. this will cause more stress when I return and two, I will get reduced pay so I will be even futher in debt! :-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?

How much are you paying a month for the loan and credit card?. If this is more than the minimum £100 a month required for a debt managementicon Plan you could be slightly better off.
I would definitely advise against a consolidation loan or further credit of any sort as rates at present would mean you would be worse off and the likelihood of you actually being accepted is slim.

good morning to you, first of all stop panicking, you are not the first and you will not be the last. You have proved you can take responsibility for your life by stopping gambling and looking after your girlfriend and your daughter. The best advice I can give you is to go to the citizens advice bureau, They will work out a payment plan for you and write to your creditors, in a lot of cases they can get the interesticon frozen. The worst thing you can do is try to borrow more money, this makes the matter worse as I know from experience. So it is lucky for you that the loans you applied for were turned down. Please let me know how you get on regards Hilary

    Hi there,

Thanks for that. I am considering writing to the lenders and asking for lower payments. Just for 6 months to see if things improve. I have the template letter.

But I wrote to one of my lenders and offered £16 a month rather then £46 and they said no.

I know its not the best idea to borrow more as I will then have more, and could use my credit again to go even further in debt.

I presently pay out £82 a month for my loan, £45-60 a month for my credit cards but I also have overdrafts with 3 banks which need payments.

My concern about DM is not having any money to pay for anything i.e emergencies, essentials.

With a debt managment, Do I have to inform them of all my debts or could I just do certain ones i.e I want to keep my Barclaysicon account the same and debt manage my others. if that makes sense.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel but I do not see it yet! One day though.

there are plenty of debt managements schemes that do not charge you a penny, I dont know the names of the organisations but someone on here will. Hiding debt from them will do you no good at all. Please dont feel embarassed about the amount of debt. thousands are in the same boat. You will not get extra brownie points for not admitting to all you debt, just the right help if you do. You can opt to pay who you want as you want, just let the people who deal with this for you all your creditors. What you must do is write a list of all income and outgoings before anyone can make a start. That way they will work out a realistic figure for you. They will take into account money you may need for emergencies. Hils
