Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I'm new to this site and with my current circumstances, I felt it would be a good idea to join up and hopefully get advice.
It all started a month ago - literally - and I was happily doing my Christmas shopping via eBay. So, having a paypal account and no problems (ever), this time, something happened.
I noticed that when I bought something (and unsure on how much money I had in my account.. which wasn't an issue at the time to be fair) it'd say "congratulations, you have purchased.." so then after that, I realised that I had spent more than I had in the bank but it was still letting these payments go through. Realising the money just came off when I got paid, it became a habit so I thought "oh great, now I can buy even better things for Christmas".. however, for some strange reason.. this stopped happening and the bank charges came flooding in - literally- every single day up to 114 Pounds a day and even over 200 Pounds on another day (even though I did check with all my bank leaflets from RBS, it only states that they can charge you up to 114 Pounds a day .. so when I enquired about this 200 Pound charge, they bluffed me off)
So after that horrendeous spending issue, I was charged over 700 Pounds.
I informed the bank about this (I also would like to note that PayPal isn't supposed to let this happen???) and of course, the bank have been of no help but just blabber on to me "We can increase your overdraft", or "we can give you a loan to pay off your debts"..
Does anyone else here see why I'd be annoyed with this? it means more money in their pocket! since I have no choice however, I've had to opt for an overdraft to pay these off.
I'm sick fed up of this and the charges. It's no money off their backsides if anyone can't afford to make ends meet at the time - infact, it just shows that single person cannot afford things right now, nevermind CHARGES!
So I've written a letter to the bank, explaining all this but there's been no reply. This was over a week ago.
I've been on the phone to them every day since these problems started and they're really not helping. Infact, I find their service totally rude. This is the RBS collection centre where I've been advised to call about this.
I understand there's currently a court case going on at the moment (well, has been for a long time!) regarding unfair charges.
I believe these are unfair because before all this, I wasn't in debt. I didn't have a lot of money, but I wasn't in debt. Now I'm in debt and recently been made redundent from my job.
I have no income and minus - a lot of money! - in debt.
Does anyone have advice for me? as I'd greatly appreciate it.
Just a way to pay off these debts. I'm sadly going to my local Job Centre Plus tomorrow to *gulp* enquire on income support which is one thing I never thought I'd see myself doing. It's really hard and this really is no skin off the back for RBS, but a big problem for me.
