Default Deceitful Trick by the RAC

I called the RAC membership renewal department today in order to renew my ASDA Breakdown Covericon. I requested that the payment be made by monthly direct debiticon and the agent confirmed this with me at £6.58 per month, he told me he was debiting the first payment today. I have subsequently found by checking my account that he debited £78.92 (the total amount) in full.

I called them for an explanation and a second agent told me that ASDA breakdown cover can only be paid in a lump sum. I was not told this by the first agent who actually confirmed with me the monthly payment as stated above.

I then checked the ASDA Finance web site that confirms that the ASDA breakdown is payable by monthly DD at £6.16 per month.

    http://www.asdafinance.com/breakdown-cover.html

I wanted to pay by DD since I am short of cash this month (its christmas etc) and needed the cash to take the wife out at the weekend, now we can't go due to the RAC taking our money.

What should I do, I have made a complaint but they have not responded?

Thanks MB, this is an option. Just means I will have to wait up to two weeks to get a refund. I am just furious that they did this and seem to think that they can get away with it and also try to tell blatant lies.

I am now going to request a copy of the telephone recordingicon and send this to Trading Standards. They need to be investigated.

Not that it seems to make a blind bit of difference to the banks - but the direct debiticon Guarantee clearly states :-

If an error is made by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid

get onto your bank and do not take any rubbish from them - they will wriggle (dont they always) but they are bound to refund you your money.

Opinions are offered in good faith based upon personal experience and research. Before making any irreversible decisions the opinion of a qualified, registered and insured legal professional should be sought.
