Default Wrong reg number but clear photographic evidence...

I got a pcnicon a couple of days ago for not buying a ticket in a pay and display car park at a university - £50 within 28 days or £25 within 14 days.
I was going to contest it becuase there were no signs or pay and display machines within sight of the car (you had to go around the corner).

But when I looked at the ticket I realised they had the reg number wrong by one number (a 6 instead of a 5), but they have posted photos of the car online and the real reg number is very clear. Surely when they realise that the reg number on the ticket doesn't exist (I have checked on mycarcheck.com), they will be able to look at the photo and correct it.
I have read that a wrong reg number makes the ticket invalid, but is this really the case? Even if it's just a typoicon, and there's a photo?

Not sure which of these defences to go with - the last thing I want to do is end up paying £50...

    What do you think?

    Thanks in advance, Ila

If it has been issued in a University car park then it is likely to be a PPC invoice, not an official council issued pcnicon. No reference to any law will help you clarify whether a reg number can be corrected on an invoice later (PCNs can't be changed at all so would be a slam-dunker I believe). PPC invoices are just tat so can be changed, added to or written on the back of a fag packet and it makes no difference legally.

Please confirm what type of ticket/invoice you have received and from whom and post back for further advice.

Thanks crem. It says it is a 'civil penalty notice' and is issued by the car parking partnership for parking on internal roads within Keele university...

Clearly a PPC [problem]voice then. Make better use of your time than writing to them or (God forbid!) sending them money, by reading the many threads on here as to best course of action.

btw if they used the word "Penalty" on their invoice like you say, they will not go anywhere near a court with their claim.

If you can post a pic of it on here (after removing any of your personal details) then we can confirm just to be sure.

There is another thread about Keele University.

Have a look at this. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...d-private.html

    not mentioned yet.

These 'tickets' may actually be being issued by the Uni !!!

CPP offer a package service which may or may not include them providing people to issue the 'tickets'. If they do, I seem to recall they call them CEOs. Otherwise, they just supply docs, adminicon and follow up.

would be interesting to know the real sitch.

But still not valid Ting if they are claiming a "penalty" and no doubt using those nice little yellow envelopes that imply an "offence" to remove.

Indeed (blimey crem- do you doubt my motives sometimes?).

I was pointing out that the Uni may be complicit in such possibly illegal activity.

CPP - the real company is 'Liberty Services' worth a read of the 'oh we're so lovely' website.
    -
CPP payments - to a Northampton PO Box - as lamma has pointed out elsewhere - oddly close to TEC.
Real address is Thornton Heath 130 miles away.
