Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I recieved a parking fine in a company vehicle months ago and ignored it. I then started getting all sorts of letter regarding court and i ignored that too.. the parking fine was originally for £30 rising to £45. Now i have bailiffs calling and sending letters for upto £250.. they have also sent a removal of goods letter if i do not pay. the bailiffs are from doncaster area unsure of name, and the fine was issued by west midlands police in coventry. I have no reference number on the letter regarding which ticket it is in conjunction with as ive had a few lately come back. Im expecting them to call again this week and i was wondering what course of action i should now take.. pay or refuse to pay? any help would be greatly recieved.
Police are definately not a PPC, are they? I'd pay up quick.
If you are in the habit of not bothering where you park because it's a company vehicle, you may not have a lot of sympathy.
Hmmmm. Not quite sure of the processes regarding criminal tickets. May vary from force to force. Sending bailiffs seems rather kind as, from what you've said, you seem to have 'dissed' a Magistrate. The alternative would be BiB banging on the door at 5am and taking you for a little holiday. May still happen for all i know - possibly wait until they mount such an operation 'catch-up' - by which time it will be be far more money - maybe?
Useful warning to others though! Read a forum = good. Fail to ask and confirm understanding = bad.
Don't like seeing anyone lose out unnecessarily but if it's your own doing then take the consequences. bailiffs won't mess around on that - bye bye car + maybe more. More often the bailiff has to take any action, including just letters, the more the bill goes up.
Never know what procedure might be - maybe a certain number of attempts by bailiff and then referred back to BiB - who will be none too pleased and happily drag you out of bed. Shame really - cos they have better things to do.
Harsh words? Nope - all very real possibilities as far as i understand it. You needed to know.
