Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I got behind on my car payments due to bank charges mounting up Nationwide.
I got a different account 3 months ago and thought I would be able to make up the payments and get the finance up to date.
However, the payments that GE wanted to make up the payments and pay the monthly payment was £100 a week. i only earn £170 a week so could not afford this. I asked if they would add the arrears onto the total that I owed, obviously because they are so helpful they declined.
They have passed the account onto a collection agency called European Debt Registry Ltd who have said that they only have a certain amount of time to collect the arrears then they have to pass it back to GE who will take me to court and get the baliffs in.
I am owed thousands by credit card companies and Banks and it takes time to get it. The one that owe me the most are the ones that are run you round in circles, ie we have not received your SAR - (Subject access request) request, we need proof of who you are.
Then there is the problem of my accounts being defaulted as soon as I got into claiming unfair charges back, so when the cards are paid I still cannot use them unless I can get the default off, and that is going to take another month minimum, as I have only just sent letters asking for it back.

Any advice would be seriously welcome as I am at wits end and starting to crack up with the worry of it.
If I lose my car I can not get to work and if I cannot get to work there is no way in ---- I will ever be able to pay GE or EDR, as there is not much in the way of work round here, due to location.
I'm in a similar situation with GE Money - account going back from EDR soon. Mine is over a dispute over a settlement figure - for some reason they want £800 more than I originally borrowed!
I can't help with your specific questions but this may help: my agreement is NOT hire purchase, just a car loan. They therefore cannot repossess my car. One option in an EDR letter was "voluntary repossession of car" but this would require me to give them my car (which I won't).
So hopefully your car is safe, but check your agreement.
Mine was for a car loan, not finance, sorry should have been more clear. They did say that the car was mine. I think I am being threatened again, scare tactics, think I will go and see a solicitor on this one, get !/2 an hour free advice, should be all I need.
