    Default Welcome Car finance

We took out a car loan on 01/02/08. to purchase a land rover, we were told that it was compulsary to have payment protection, mechanical Breakdownicon insurance and shorfall extra cover which added a further £4,600.32 to the loan.

At the time we were told we had to have these policies so yes we signed.

A week later the car was back at the garage for a new clutch and power streering box but we told them we were not happy with the car and wanted to cancell the deal but were told it was too late.

Blow me on a drive up to chester the propshaft fell out and almost flipped the car over. a local land rover dealer was called to recover it and they said it was due to the clutch not being fitted correctly as some bolts were missing.

No problem we thought we are covered, think again they did not cover this problem £875.00 repair bill plus £120.00 recovery charges.

We complained to welcome and they said they would investigate the matter, our patience ran out and we stopped the payments. they chased us once with a 9pm call and i told them the car was not being paid for as we have been conned.

My question is can i take the matter further and can they snatch back the car? can i contest this agreement in court.
    Any help is welcome!

Sorry - but spilt milk comes to mind. The 'compulsory' PPIicon is, I think, mis-selling and the other two could have been covered by taking out RAC or AA recovery (the mech Breakdownicon insurance probably only covers you for the tow!). Either way, they probably come under mis-selling as well. For myself, I would have walked away. Was it a dealership? If so, perhaps a very strong letter to Landrover would be in order.

If you already belong to either the RAC or AA, try getting on to them for help as well. I'm pretty sure that Watchdog would be interested also.

Not very helpful except in an abstract sense - but please - make as much noise as you can right to the very top of any organisation involved, including Welcome, and find out if they do indeed insist on all the costly extras.

Somebody with more knowledge will probably give you more sound advice in due course.

we got the car from car craft, the finance was set up through U-Can car credit which has a branch on site who placed the deal through welcome finance.

When the clutch and power steering went car craft repaired (or should i say botched it) the car.

about a month later the propshaft went and the local garage in chester who was a land rover dealer had it in and discovered that the previous repair (clutch & Power Steering) that car craft had done was the cause of the propshaft coming out as secure bolts holding the gearbox in were either loose and missing.

When we told the MBI people we had a claim we were told they did not cover this type of damage so we ended up paying out.

We tried to claim from car craft they passed the buck and finally welcome finance. they said they would look into it but hey guess what NOTHING! Grrrrrrrrr!!!

So finally we asked for the refund of the PPIicon and mbi insurance monies as it is not worth the paper it is written on and we were mis-sold policies which we told we had to have, making other greedy people nearly 5,000K.

Now the situation is stalemate, no payments to them, as the car is not of good quality, in fact the engine management light is on.

Surely welcome have an obligation to the customer to ensure the goods are of good quality, and provide finance which is in line with regulations. all we get is loads of phone callsicon and home visits demanding more money (yeah go whistle) We hav'nt had a call for some time and it's gone quiet.

    What can we do.!!!!!!!!!

OK - just a couple of questions. Were you given the 136 point Quality and Safety Check document that they say you get when you make a purchase?
Did you also get the 7 days free insurance? And did you also get the full MOT? All of these things are specified on the Welcome Car Finance blurb and, I believe, should form part of the contract. If they were missing, it may be that you could go to the parent company Welcome Finance.

Their blurb gives the following advice:
Your feedback and comments help us to continue to improve our services for you. In the unlikely event you wish to make a complaint, please speak to our Customer Services Team on 0845 618 7804. They will ensure that a senior manager thoroughly investigates your complaint.

We were not given a 130 point check receipt, and when we complained to welcome we just got passed around the system. We did have a letter saying they were looking into it but that was it.

I have stopped all payments to them, the car is falling to bits, we dont even use it now as it needs a lot of money spending on it to put it right.

We have had no other communication from them

(DONT BUY A LAND ROVER unless you are prepared to spend thousands. they all fall to bits.)

LOL Shazzy. I have a 6 year old Freelander and it is, and always has been, fine. My son has a 25 year old Defender 90 still going strong.

Anyway, you haven't really had any answers to your OP so I'm going to back out and hope that you get some real answers on how to go about getting redress. I'll keep the thread subscribed so that I can see what is going on.

    Good luck

How interesting - my partner also got a Land Rover from a dealer, financed by Welcome, and she has also had various mechanical dramas with it.

We have been sending them letters since January and they have still yet to do anything useful. She also stopped paying them in March, and reclaimed all of her previous payments under the DD guarantee, and they have yet to act upon it.

If you can, get the name of the person in the 'Compliance Department' who is dealing with your complaint. Also, don't expect to get hold of them easily via phone - letters are the best (although not the quickest) way to deal with them.

We are now going to report them to the FSA, and complain to the Ombudsmanicon about them, but i will keep an eye on this thread - keep us updated!

    fix (vb.):
    1. to paper over, obscure, hide from public view;
    2. to work around, in a way that produces unintended consequences that are worse than the original problem.
Usage: "Vista fixes many of the shortcomings of Windows XP".
