Default Laptop broken within 2 years

    Hello,

My mother has a laptop, which is shy of 2 years old, and it has broken down, surely an expensive piece of technology can be expected to last for longer than that? Does anyone have any links to any letters or suitable legislation to quote at the supplier, who are refusing to have anything to do with it? Im sure i have seen similar cases on here before.

It's a portable - the trouble is you need to be in a position to prove that any failure has not been induced by the user (whether through misuse or otherwise). You don;t say what the problem is - but after 2 years I would accept there was never an inherent fault with the item, and without this a claim against the manufacturers would not be successful.

Sale of Goods Act - if the fault is inherent not caused by wear and tear on the machine or by misuse the retailer is required to repair or replace the item.

As the item is over six months old you may be required to obtain an engineer's report into the state of the laptop, you would be reimbursed for the cost of doing this if the fault is deemed to be covered.
