They are probably under investigation by the enforcement authorities for having inappropriate procedures in place during that time.

Did you consider that you had an option regarding the application of this most ridiculous ???????protection ever sold.

If so write to them and tell them that you want ever penny they charged you for it, oh and while you are at it ask them for contractual interesticon to boot.

They deprived you of this money over time and therefore you are entitled to be compensated for your loss of money at their contractual rate of interest.

    Good luck

    http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q.../hsbcpanic.jpg

Hopefully this is the HSBCicon equivalent of the Citi bank letter I do believe some financial instutions are getting a little worried for them to be sending these unsolicited letters out to customers

And very nice to see there is worry now about the whole PPIicon issue

Shame sodding Lloydsicon can't do the same but lets face it they were arrogant enough to change their charging scheme to the detriment of thousand of customers at a time when they were being challenged in the high court anyway and even their own regulatory body had instructed banks not to do that

If you can keep you head when all of those around you are losing theirs try parking your helicopter somewhere else

    Hi e_inspired

I would agree with djgordyp, they are trying to cover their backsides here for some reason. I wouldn't phone them if I were you , write them a letter , referring to the one they sent you an give them your opinion of whether you reckon it was mis-soldicon.
If you reckon it was , ask them for instructions on how to reclaim it - and if they give you a load of waffle, come back here and ask for help - someone will always answer ........

This is a pre-emptive strike by the banks to halt claims for PPIicon Mis-selling. They know it is a big issue and in the limelight of the press and other media and so they try to stave off any further claims with an unsolicited letter saying please phone and we will explain why the PPI was not Mis-sold. ( I believe they are too late. We all know it was mis-sold bigtime and now it is paybacktime) As has been mentioned in earlier posts it is a big rat to try an prevent PPI reclaims. My best advice ignore the letters and CLAIM bigtime do not be put off. They were wrong and you are right so go for it:grin:

    Hi all
I have recieved the same letter from them, I had been fighting them for my charges back and then got passed to cabot but had not had any comunication for months untill now and have drafted the following letter to them in reply.

    Dear Sir / Madam

    Re missellingicon of insurance

Further to your letter of the 17Th November 2008 I have fully reviewed the details you have sentand, as previously stated in many comunications would confirm that , the policy was not merelt sold but forced onto the account and was not required and was wholly inappropriate for my circumstances at the time, furthermore before the policy was initiated no medical questions were asked to establish that the policy would cover me nor were there any questions relating to other policies which would have invalidated the policy you sold, I would therefore request again as previously that the full amount plus compound contractual interesticon at 32% as was your intrest rate put onto the policy at the time be returned to me and, any charges or information recorded against me due to the extra cost of the policy being applied be removed and any and all references with credit reference agencies be removed as the miss selling of the policy now renders any and all agreements or implied agreements null and void.
I am however please to see that you have at last reviewed your position as to the methods employed by your company in the selling of these policies, I look forward to recieving your cheque.

    Yours faithfully.

I am far from an expert on these things so please do not use the above letter unless you have had proper and sound advice from someone with the qualifications and experience in these things, I myself will not be sending this letter untill I have had assurances that it is ok to send.
Hope I have been of some help.

I believe that the reason Citi are contacting you is because the FSA have contacted lenders asking them to demonstrate their process(es) for Treating Customers Fairly (TCF): http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pubs/other/tcf_deadline.pdf

Lenders (and other firms) are expected to comply with this request by 1 December 2008 and be able to demonstrate that they are indeed treating customers in a fair and transparent manner and complying with 6 specific guidelines here: Treating customers fairly

This is a huge issue for lenders and really does act in the customer's favour!

The letter that Citi has sent to you will be have been sent to a number of their customers and I believe is an attempt to demonstrate part of their TCF process to the FSA with regard to the sale of PPIicon ...

Yes, I believe they are making an attempt to show that they are trying to treat you fairly, however, it may be a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

I would agree with others that you should NOT talk to them on the telephone but confine your communications with them to writing as you are proposing to do with your letter here.

Good luck and I'm interested to see what their response will be to your letter.

    'Fortune favours the brave.'

Any advice given is purely on the basis of my own views and opinions and offered in good faith.
