Hi,
I'm new to this site and have been looking at other threads for the past few hours as I received a
parking ticket
from a private company (Northern Parking Services) this morning. I was parked at my university who have only recently made the car park pay and display, before this it was free to park on campus but they have now created one small car park behind the university which is operated by this private company.
I put a ticket on the car but then got sidetracked by a tutor meeting regarding the dreaded dissertation and ended up being an hour late back to my car only to find I had a £60 ticket waiting for me.
When I saw it, I straightaway asked my tutor if he would be willing to write a letter to back up that I had an appointment which over ran and he said he would be more than happy to and my plan was to appeal against this but the company ask for payment in full which will be refunded if the appeal is settled. I'm not sure if I trust this, particularly with it being a private company?
Now, after looking on this website, I've found that perhaps that isn't the best thing to do and that maybe I should just ignore the fine? The only problem is, my car is registered in my mum's name and I am concerned that she will end up being bombarded with letter or worse still
bailiffs
knocking at the door. The other option which I have taken from this site is to pay the amount owed to the company for the additional length of time I stayed in the car park which is approx £1 but how would I actually go about doing this??
Sorry for the very long moan but I am stressed out enough with an important deadline for next week and this has just made it so much worse. Is it best to just pay the £60 and forget about it? I just begrudge paying so much for such a minor offence!
Also, sorry for posting on this thread...as I mentioned before I am new to the site and didn't know how to start my own.
