Help please. For the last year I have been receiving business rates demands from my local council for a property that I have never had anything to do with. I have informed them of this several times but they have now produced a lease agreement bearing a signature that looks remarkably like mine. I know I have never signed this document and was actually unemployed for most of the period for which they are claiming. I am unsure whether to inform them of my unemployment as I am worried that should this proceed to court and it is decided that the signature is mine am I leaving myself open to a fraud charge for claiming benefits? My solicitor has advised me to send a copy of my driving licence to dispute the signature but to my untrained eye the two look similar enough for me to be helping to convict myself.
