    Default closing account

Tried to close my Abbeyicon account today, as i was fedup with the way they treated us.
the wife was in hospital fighting for her life a few months back. her diabetes was the cause of the problem. fighting a coma isn't a nice thing to do.

whilst she was in hospital for the week, i was left to carry on running my shop and visiting the wife and looking after the home.

i didn't manage to get and put any money in to the account to cover the bills that came out, so cancelled all direct debits with them.
managed to get a few of the charges dropped but still have about £75 of charges to pay for them paying out £7.52

was told by the manager of my branch that she cannot amend these charges or even accept the payment early. so meaning that on one of the charges im going to get interesticon added as it was from last month. so cant close account.

so this surely means they can't do a manaul intervention. so sort of proves that all charges are computerised only.

walked out of the branch in the end and said see you in court for the £7.52.

whilst i was leaving i noticed that they are giving new customers £100 to move from exsisting banks. is this what the money from the government was intended for. how can they do this to the people of this country.

so what do exsisting customers get from them then.

totally disgusting for them to be giving money away when they don't have any to give away.

Sorry to hear about your wife, I hope she is recovering well now.

I agree with you about the £00, but i guess its the only way they can get new customers now.

Get your claim in for the charges asap. And keep us updated.

I just believe it is so wrong for them to give away tax payers money.

this really has to stop. its not there money to give away.

i will be speaking with the head office today about the way the manager treated us yesterday. like we was no good and was a piece of dirt on the bottom of her shoe.

Abbeyicon have still not closed the account, they have charged me £25.25 taking a debt of £7.25 upto £98 now.

i had been to the branch to clear the £7.25 but they wouldn't take it with out the charges. told them to go roll for it. said i want to clear the debt now. we can't do it as the computer wont allow it. this totally proves that no manual intervention can be preformed.

i just phoned to speak with someone and they have also confirmed they can't override the system. i explained that these charges are meant to have a charge for manaul intervention in them. if you can't do anything to override the system you can't charge for the service you claim is in the charge. silence at the other end. sorry we can't do nothing the system is down.

I would write to them with a cheque for whatever you owe less the charges and state quite clearly that this is all they are going to get and that from reciept of the letter you consider the account closed, and any further action on their behalf wil be defended in a court of law if needed.

The £100 switcher bank account is not funded by tax payers money as Abbeyicon have not used any of the govt bail out money so this point and rant made above is unfounded!

It is common knowledge which banks did use the govt bail out. Abbeyicon website and press statement at the time makes that clear also. The £100 was a special offer deal anyway as like most companies they have a promotion and marketing budget.

The tax payer angle about us owning/running their affairs is a daft one. The army is funded by tax payers money but you could not turn up at an army base and demand to use a tank!

im sure they will dip into it now after losing £2bn,even though it was Santander that lost it.

Santander has not lost 2 billion, their direct exposure to the Madoff fraud is only 17 million. Santander clients exposure is 2.3 billion through Santanders Optimal fund management unit. Optimal will take all legal actions which may be needed to defend the interesticon of those customers. Optimal is the Santander Groups assest manager that specialises in the management of alternative investment funds.

No UK savers are at risk as none of those funds have been sold through Abbeyicon, A&L or B&B so there is no exposure to any savers.

It appears that Santander and certain global customers of Santander (both institutions and high net worth clients), have been subject to fraud by Madoff Securities specifically through the Groups Optimal Strategic US Equity Fund.
