Hi all - I'm hoping someone can give me advice about Provident.
I originally took 2 loans out last year - one in my husband's name and one in mine - as is usual with Provident I then took other loans out to cover times of need and paying off previous loans. To date, I now owe £2600+ and I cannot afford the monthly repayments. If it's a 4 wk month, payments are £273 and if it's a 5 wk month, payments are £318.
My husband's overtime has been cut completely, so he is on a basic wage and I have my part-time wage. We have quite a few other debts as well, which I have made offers of payment of, on average, £20 per creditor.
I'm extremely scared of the door being knocked on and the provvy rep standing on the doorstep demanding money. I missed the october payment and when I spoke to her, she said that I could pay this months payment of £273 plus the payments on my hubby's account, totalling £360. I couldn't afford it and had to cancel the cheque after she left as I was too scared to say anything to her. What a wimp She expected me then to pay £273 plus my missed prev payment of £186 making a total of £459 to be paid at the end of November.
I cannot manage these payments at all, I'm losing sleep and making myself ill because i'm so scared of what is going to happen. My stomach is turning over just typing this. Has anyone any ideas how I can avoid seeing the agent again and possibly dealing instead direct with the Provident office ? And, how on earth, I can get these payments to somewhere manageable...
I'd be so grateful for any advice (and some sleeping tablets would be excellent too....!)
When the agent next calls, only give her what you can afford.
Explain your situation to her and ask her to explain this to her manager. If you are uncomfortable talking to the agent then ring the office before she is due and speak to the manager over the phone.
I was in trouble with Provident along with many others, and I went down the debt management plan route. The dmp company advised me not to pay any of my debts, so after a few weeks of telling the rep I was on a DMP and was not paying her she sent her manager to see me.
The manager was really nice about it and explained that she could have set up a short term reduced payment plan without going through the DMP.
If you situation is not likely to improve, you will need to explain this to her and then take it from there.
I stopped dealing with my DMP about 6 months ago and none of my creditors have been paid since then and all I get from Provident is the odd letter from their solicitors. I am going to CCA them next week. Hopefully they will offer me a Full and final settlement figure.
Don't be afraid to speak to these people. My last agent told me that she only done the job to get extra money to make ends meet, so they know what it is like to be in a situation where you can no longer afford the repayments.

Thank you for your reply I'm going to try and talk to the agent and see where I get - She is not due until the week after next, so I've got plenty of time to work out what I'm going to say.
Quick update - I texted the agent saying that I would be writing to the head office and requested that she refrained from ringing or calling at my door - to date, I haven't heard anything since but I have had letters from Provident advising me of missed payments but not requesting the payments.
